Synchrodogs: Riverie sleep

Riverie Sleep by Synchrodogs Tania Shcheglova and Roman Noven, better known as Synchrodogs, are emerging Ukrainian photographers that have taken the fine art and fashion world by storm with their powerful visual language. Tania and Roman travel around Ukraine and create photographic series that picture the presence of the human body in the context of undisturbed nature. These self-portraits are often reduced to a photograph of a body simultaneously absorbed by and alienated from its natural background. After being awarded with the Pinchuk Art Prize in 2013, the duo travelled to Iceland to continue their artistic journey. The outcome of it was the Riverie Sleep series that was later exhibited in Kiev. "Reverie Sleep project is based on Synchrodogs’ dreams, those they have seen in drowsiness. Charting that subtle space between wake and sleep - familiar yet remote, the artistic duo have been recording their supernatural visions and then recreating them via photography. The project deals with the stage of Non Rapid Eye Movement sleep, during which some people may experience hypnagogic hallucinations caused by natural process of falling asleep. Experimenting with those lucid dreaming techniques they usually woke themselves up in the middle of the night to make a note of what they had just seen, gathering their dreams to be staged afterwards."
