Simon Astridge Architects: The Playwood House

The Plywood House by Simon Astridge ArchitectsSimon Astridge Architects is a London-based architecture practice with a simple goal: to provide its clients with design solutions that are innovative and relevant in equal measure. The Plywood House, which was designed according to this principle, is a complete refurbishment and extension of a typical Victorian terraced house in London. The concept behind this project was to use a palette of five materials: concrete, plywood, brickwork, natural stone and the sky. They are used in different parts of the house, and the choice of a particular material depended on its functionality. For instance, walls and floors of family bathroom are covered with brickwork, which which was chosen due to its simple form and durability. The kitchen is cast in concrete internally, whereas all the parts on the upper level of the house are finished with plywood that was sealed with a clear lacquer. Along with his team, Simon Astridge creates the type of architecture that helps every space fulfil its role effectively. As the architect describes his work: „we help our clients’ dreams flourish”.
