Yoshio Ohno Architects: House in Miyake

House in Miyake by Yoshio Ohno Architects and Hidetaka Nakahara ArchitectsA bad decision can sometimes be the beginning of something extraordinary, as proved by the case of House in Miyake. Located in Hiroshima, Japan, it is a result of a collaboration between two Japanese architecture studios: Hidetaka Nakahara Architects and Yoshio Ohno Architects. To understand how this project was born, one needs to know the story. The owner of the site once decided to sell a part of it and built a 4-meter-high wall to divide it in two. When he changed his mind after some time and decided to build a house on the site, the wall was still there, unable to be removed. Fortunately, the designers from both Hidetaka Nakahara and Yoshio Ohno teams were experienced and skillful enough to make sense of the seemingly impossible project. The house stretches over the wall, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The part that hangs over the wall is the space that can be preceived both as an exterior and interior. Apart from impressing us with its ingenuity, the House in Miyake has also won our hearts with the simple and clean interior design.
