Wouter Van de Voorde: Hume Sunrise

Hume Sunrise by Wouter Van de Voorde Wouter Van de Voorde's background in landscape painting is easily recognizeable in the photographs from the Hume Sunrise series. He documents the stunning landscapes of New South Wales with an excellent sense of colour and composition. Wandering through the empty and eerie territories, he captures the atmosphere of silence and peace, that lasts until the sun breaks the fog. "Early morning fog is one of the features of the Canberran winter rendering non-places into mystical wastelands." Originally from Belgium, Wouter tries to interpret the Australian land in his own way. Those moody and melancholic sceneries are certainly not in line with the common image of Australian landscape, and bear more resemblence to the Dutch landscapes. "As a permanent tourist I seek refuge in my images, trying to create a sense of belonging for myself," says Wouter. Words: Thisispaper Photography: Wouter Van de Voorde
