Atelier Oslo: Cabin Norderhov

Cabin Norderhov by Atelier Oslo Cabin Norderhov is a project of Norwegian architecture practice Atelier Oslo. It’s perfectly located on a slope in Krokskogen forests (with a fantastic view over the lake Steinsfjorden) and looks even more impressive inside. As the weather conditions are harsh most time of the year, the cabin is built in a place that shelters it from the wind, but at the same time gives it sunlight at different times of the day. Outside, it has a rectangular geometry and is covered in a pattern similar to these common in traditional wooden claddings in Norway. The big surprise, though, is how this inconspicuous cabin looks inside. Clad with birch plywood, the interior is shaped as a continuous space with curved walls and ceilings. The floor is arranged in a way that forms the steps for sitting or laying down. Located in the centre of the cabin and seen from all its levels, the fireplace plays the role of the campfire in the landscape. However, the solution that makes this house even closer to nature are the windows, almost invisible from the inside. Thanks to that, the visitors can watch the stunning Norwegian landscapes while sitting by the fireplace in this outstanding space.
