AN OFF-THE-GRID HOLIDAY DESTINATION: CARMEL, CA

Featuring the Hofsas House in the seaside community by the seashore of Carmel.

Just a few weeks ago and as referenced to on our Point Lobos post, we packed our bags and headed down south from Cupertino (where Martin is currently stationed for Apple) to what is affectionately-known as Carmel-by-the-Sea. At first we didn't know quite what to expect, as the town itself was rather hidden away from the main freeway that leads to it. In retrospect, we believe this further reinforces the magic that is tucked away within this seemingly hidden community.

HOFSAS HOUSE

For our three night stay, we packed only the necessities into our Louis Vuitton and Bric's luggage bags and carried our essentials in a Kao Pao Shu backpack. (#TravelTip: The day-to-night temperatures in Carmel are fairly moderate but it does get really chilly in the evening, so be prepared to layer up!) The Hofsas House was a welcome sight after being on the road for 3 hours in the rain (the trek from Cupertino normally takes about an hour and a half). Believe me, it was so nice to just spend the night roasting by an actual fireplace with some delicious red wine brie cheese plate.

WINE TASTING

The wine and dine continued the day after at Caraccioli Wines - one of the many tasting cellars owned by local vineyards that offer their own unique selection of flights and varietals. If you're a fan of sparkling rose, this is a must on your itinerary. A "walkable wine tour" concept is just brilliant to say the least; there is practically no driving involved so you can thoroughly enjoy yourself with no reservations attached. #TravelTip: Since Carmel typically has a more quaint and classy ambience, I wouldn't recommend getting too inebriated and wander the streets.

This Shell sign though. What a creative way to blend in!

CARMEL BEACH AND SUNSETS

Perhaps even more stunning than the town itself are the sunsets by Carmel Beach - they are simply sublime. Perfect for a morning hike and ideal to end the day with. There are many lookout points that are designated for the sunset views, but word to the wise - get there early unless you want to compete with swarms of people just for a sunset Instagram!

A sincere thanks to the Hofsas House Inn and ChatterBox PR for generously hosting us and giving us our first but unforgettable taste of Carmel. We'll be back very soon!
