Moving In To East Hampton

(ABOVE) The wood front gate really works for me. I’m so used to seeing iron gates, which can be very harsh. The wood gate is very inviting and makes you want to come by.

The Hampton’s has to be one of my favorite places to escape to in the summer. It’s convenient if you live in NYC and need a quick getaway, and it’s full of stunning architecture and beautiful beaches! This East Hampton’s treasure is not the typical Hampton’s style house. It was built in the late 1930s by the architectural firm Wyeth and King. The home was owned by Robert Lion Gardiner. It features 10 bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms, boasting over 10,000 sq ft on 5 acres. What I find to be appealing about this home is the exterior stone work. The home looks like it could belong in Europe not the Hampton’s. As much as I love the Hampton’s, seeing shingle homes after shingle homes can be very monotonous. This old world gem stands out among the other homes.

The interior of the home is quite surprising. It’s not traditional like you’d expect, but rather eclectic; mixing together modern, vintage, and traditional-style pieces. I decided to go with this theme when selecting furniture pieces I’d buy (once I move in of course)! Being that we’re in the Hampton’s, I choose many white pieces. Something fresh and light is what you want when you’re minutes away from the beach. The Nazmiyal rug adds a bit of color to an otherwise neutral colored home. A home like this needs pieces that play to its old world architecture (woods, rich pieces, soft materials), but also needs pieces that suite its location. What do you think of the furniture picks? Would you ‘Move In‘?

(ABOVE) The front of the house is very inviting. I love the stone work. The home feels very old world Europe and not Hampton’s.

(ABOVE) The back of the home is very fresh. Between the fountain and all the greenery, you really feel like you are on vacation! The blue awnings soften the stone.

(ABOVE) The Provence garden is absolutely incredible. What wonderful array of flowers, and shrubs. My only critic of the garden is that there looks to be no path through it. Perhaps the photograph doesn’t show a pathway, but I’d love to walk through the garden with my morning coffee!

(ABOVE) The back patio is the place to relax. Here you’re able to soak in all the incredible details of the home, and property! I’m a huge fan of the white furnishings, they allow the property to take center stage.

(ABOVE) A pool is necessary on any Hampton’s property, however, I love a pool deck that is grass and not stone. There is something wonderful about being able to feel the grass through your toes as you run around the pool. This is something I will need to change! I do like the white lounge chairs and potted plants through! Very clean and simple.

(ABOVE) I decided to keep with the contemporary theme of the home. In the living room I love all the armchairs and the flowers. This space needs a rug though! For me, a rug pulls together a whole space, without one a room just feels like it’s missing something.

(ABOVE) An aerial shot of the home. Isn’t this home situated in such a perfect place? I love all the tree’s surrounding the home. It’s great that the trees are further away from the home, to allow lots of natural light into the home. Great decision to not try and match the stone of the home on the garage. It was much smarter to simply paint the addition white.
