TBT: Sewing Tips & Tricks

Welcome to Throw-Back Thursday, everyone! This month, I’ve been browsing The Sewing Loft archives and I’ve dug up a ton of tutorials for you. The featured posts for today include sewing tips and great DIY gift ideas that are perfect for the holidays, but not necessarily so “Christmas” themed that you couldn’t use them for another event. Got an autumn or winter birthday gift to whip up? Want to make some items to give to charity? Need some stocking-stuffer ideas or a way to perk up your usual sewing routine? Keep reading!

1. This Cuddle Buddy Bear comes with a free pattern and a tutorial for putting him together. This quick & sweet softie is great for charitable sewing, or as a gift for every little one on your list!

2. My free Eyeglass Case pattern & tutorial works equally well for reading & regular glasses, or it could hold a gift that comes in cash or check form. It would also work well as a wallet or card holder, and it’s great for any season and works well as a gift for men, women, and children alike. What more do you need in a sewing project?

3. If you’ve got someone on your list who loves to read, draw, or write – this Tumbler book cover tutorial will be a real hit! Alter the sizing to fit any book or notebook, and choose your color palette based on the preferences of the recipient. It’s a fun & easy tutorial you’ll want to make again and again!

4. If you’d like to kick your sewing skills up a notch, why not try turning the dial on your sewing machine? The decorative stitches that come as a built-in feature on many sewing machines don’t often get a lot of love – but they can really pack a punch when it comes to perking up a basic sewing project (like the ones listed here in this roundup!). I’ve put together a series of tips that will help take the guesswork out of these often-neglected stitch functions.

So, are you feeling inspired to dig into that stash and come out sewing? I’d love to see it if you make something from one of these tutorials – leave me a link in the comments!
