Remember Your Confidence

I do this thing, where I "forget my confidence". Really, at times I don't feel any confidence in my abilities, my talents, my body, my image, my mind, in myself. Secretly, deep down, I know that I have worth, that I'm wonderful just the way I am, but sometimes that knowledge gets buried underneath comparisons and worries. Do you ever do that? I think most of us do. Why do we do that? That's stupid crazy.
It's easy to get bogged down in life, in striving to get better. Trust me, I do it all the time. There are days where I'm going from one thing to the next, that I don't pause to recognize the things that make me truly happy. I've noticed, when I get too busy, I get harder on myself. When I don't take time for myself, or when I just let my mind get crowded with everything that's going on, I forget that as much as the different aspects in my life need attention. I need attention too. I'm all for "Me Time". Me Parties? Yeah, I have those all the time. (Cue: Amy Adams Look Alike Comments.)
Another time I "forget my confidence" is when people tell me I'm awesome. (That sounds vain, but I don't mean it that way.) But really, when people compliment me, I feel awkward, and I don't believe them. I just say something weird, and try to find the fastest escape route.
"You're so cool Nichelle." "Uh... Penguin."
I don't know why it's so hard for me to accept compliments. I also don't know why I'm so awkward, but that's a post for another day. I should accept that I've fooled people into thinking I'm better than I am I have worth and I'm worth complimenting.
I'm a full believer in the power of an individual. We all have something we can contribute. Even little ol' me. We all have our own fate, destinies (a horse)... joke. (That was a Tangled reference, but you already knew that.) But really, we all have something inside of us, we all have something that's special and unique about us. We can make the world a better place, even if we only change our own little corner of it. Who are you not to be completely amazing. Change the world. Do it. Believe in yourself.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
Confidence is so important. I shouldn't forget it. I should recognize the talents and attributes I do have, instead of focusing on what I don't. Comparison really is the thief of joy. So, I'm going to put more focus on remembering my confidence. Because I know it's in there somewhere. Usually, I have to have Elise tell me to remember. (Sidenote: She inspired this post, because she's awesome and tells me when I'm being dumb.) But my confidence is there, because really, I have a lot to offer. We all do.

Thanks for listening friends, Nichelle
