Seoul, Korea

It’s day 2.2 and we finally explore the country’s capital- Seoul City! My crazy friends thought it would be fun to commemorate the occasion with a series of the most awkward poses we could think of (read on to see the rest of it!). I guess the reason why we all get along is because deep inside, underneath all the fancy clothes and busy blogs, we’re all just silly kids who want to have fun. In fact, Len (our “mommy” for the trip from Air Asia) kept telling us she couldn’t believe how crazy we really are in real life. So friends, do not let our instagram feeds and blog photos fool you- we are as real as it gets!

Moving on- prepare yourselves for a very loooong entry! Enjoy!

Right after our first stop for Day 2, we drove a little bit up the mountains to have lunch with this stunning view. The driver couldn’t get our huge bus up the hill, so we had to walk for a few minutes to get there. Just look at all the beautiful houses that show so much of Korean culture through architecture!

After lunch, we finally made it to Seoul, and our first stop was to see the Statue of Admiral Yu Sun-Shin at the Gwanghwamun Square. This statue represents the strong fighting spirit and patriotism of Admiral Sun-Shin during their battle with the Japanese Navy way back when. The Gwanghwamun Plaza is also where the royal administrative buildings *Yukjo-Geori” or “Street of Six Ministries” is located.

While walking around Seoul, my friends and I saw a huge art installation filled with yellow ribbons. Upon closer inspection, we came to find that all of the ribbons had messages on them, praying for the victims of the Sewol Tragedy. Just remembering what happened still shakes me up. This yellow ribbon campaign surely serves as a great symbol of hope for all of us, and reminds us that we are all together through the ups and downs of this world.

The Samsung Innovation Museum was also a part of our trip that day. Told you we did a lot! We learned so much about the history of technology and appliances, and even laughed at how inconvenient it was to use certain things before. Remember the time when mobile phones had huge battery attachments and were more expensive than cars? Crazy! I wonder what we would be laughing about in the future. Maybe the use of power banks and iPhone cases? lol

The Cheongwadae Sarangchae Museum was next on our agenda. There I got to take a photo with President Park Geun Hye! Juuust kidding. They have a fun interactive section (a.k.a. green screen) where you can do all sorts of poses with the president! I was too giddy when I shot this, so I wasn’t able to pose properly! Shucks. I should have been more firm!

It was so cool visiting this museum because it is located right in front of Korea’s White House! Plus, if you have no idea about Korean culture, you get a mini run through at their Exhibition Center in the first floor. You can also get an idea of where to go through the Hi Seoul Center, where you are introduced about all things Seoul- where to go, what to do etc.

Last but definitely not the least, we capped the night with a performance by Korea’s very own Drum Cats! That’s the group of girls behind us. They are an all female percussion group with amazing talent and energy that got all of us dancing and clapping on our feet by the end of the program. Unfortunately, cameras were not allowed, so we couldn’t shoot anything for you. Double shucks, because they called me on stage as the audience guest, and they had me dance and perform with them too! It was reaaally fun and memorable, but this is the only souvenir I have from the show. Well, better than nothing!

That ends the very fun filled Day 2 in Korea. Stay tuned for more, coming right up real soon!
