My Style: That Warm, Fuzzy Feeling

At home with TOMS for Target
After a long day at work I like to come back to my apartment, kick off my shoes, and kick up my feet. I turn on some jazz to get in the mood, preferably Coltrane or Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. “Baby It’s Cold Outside” always hits the spot. Light a few candles to feel fancy. Aaah, it’s great to be home, because home is where the heart is.

As the winter sneaks up on us, I tend to spend more time in than out. I curl up in my favorite comfy pants and a chunky sweater, and relax. Slip on my TOMS so my feet won’t feel cold against the hardwood floors. I like to think that I am the queen of my castle. The princess of pajamas. I know it’s silly, but even though I’m at home I still want to feel regal. Blame it on all the years I played dress-up as a kid running around my family home in a cape and a makeshift crown.

It’s in these moments that I realize how fortunate I am. How good I’ve got it. With a roof over my head and a cute kitty by my side, life from my point of view ain’t that bad. There’s always someone looking out for me. Even though I’m all grown up, my mom and my grandmother still send me money and care packages. My sister sends me a message almost everyday to remind me to brush my teeth. Of course I know how to do these things for myself, but it’s nice to know that that I am loved.

These printed pajama pants I’m wearing mean a lot to me, because they were made out of hope and love. They’re called Punjammies, and they are just as comfy as they are lovely. This particular style is called the Padma, named after one of the women who helped make it. Punjammies were created by the International Princess Project as a way to give hope and dignity back to victims of sex-slavery in India. So when I’m wearing these pants, I’m giving back and showing these courageous women and children love. That same love I get from my friends and family.

As we inch even closer into the holiday season, let us be reminded of those who don’t even have the most basic liberties that we often take for granted. Start your season of giving here and now. Beginning November 16th, for every TOMS for Target limited edition gift purchased, Target is giving shoes, a blanket or meals to those in need. See how easy it is to be someone’s little angel. Warm your heart by helping someone who really needs your help. It’s a nice fuzzy feeling. Like I always say… sharing is caring.
