Eric Standley

Eric Standley creates complex paper labyrinths, inspired by ancient gothic and islamic architecture. The main focus of his work is building negative space from layers of laser cut paper resulting in intricate woven detail. An associate professor of Visual Arts at Virginia Tech, he starts by initially sketching his designs before computerising each layer into vector illustrations. A piece can take over four months to complete as there are usually over 140 sheets of paper used, each being individually designed and laser cut.
