Review: Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara

Everyone is talking about the new Grandiose mascara. Truthfully, I haven’t even gone to the Lancome counter to check it out. It’s always been a hit or miss when it comes to Lancome’s mascara and I’ve had my fair share of mascara fails. Makes me feel like I’m wasting money on more expensive mascaras when I can just purchase drugstore ones. I’ve mentioned before that I really liked the Hypnose Doll mascara. Then a few blogger friends recommended Hypnose Star, and I was curious to give it a try. So I caved and bought it. I hardly ever write about mascaras, so I thought I’d share.

I’ve had this for a while but never really used it until recently. I wanted to use up the other opened mascaras before they dried up. You know what? I’m a sucker for packaging, and this mascara looks really great. I also like that the brush is on the smaller side, and it is flat, tapered to a pointed edge. Here’s to show you what I mean – front view and side view of the brush.

The sides of the wand is a little curved, so you can use it to separate / curl your lashes. I like to use the flat side to pump up the volume before using the side to comb through the lashes. This is a waterproof formula, so it holds the curls really well. Another thing to note is that this mascara is rather wet. If not careful, you’ll get mascara goop on your lids. There was a bit of a learning curve, and I still sometimes get mascara on my lids which can get annoying. So, for that, I have a cotton bud ready to clean up the mess. The result however is really quite something. My lashes are typically fine and straight. Hypnose Star managed to give me volume, some length and definitely some curl.

However, would I pay RM95 for this mascara on a regular basis? No. I’m still looking for something that really works from the drugstore. I know people always say to throw out your mascara after 3 months, but I’m going to use this until it dries out, or maybe I’ll toss it around the 6 month mark, whichever comes first. 3 months is too short a time, and too expensive a mascara.

What mascara works for you?

xoxo Lily
