Getting to know Handbag Designer Patricia Nash

Today I had the pleasure of meeting designer Patricia Nash at a local Macy’s department store. As I walked in I could hear music that was light, yet current (no elevator music by the escalator, please) and even from the door I could see shoppers milling around and speaking with a poised, beautiful and sharply dressed woman. I knew from pictures that this woman was Patricia Nash, CEO and designer.

Working with a plethora of well known clients (such as Disney, Warner Bros. and who do you think created Marc Ecko Enterprises Accessories LLC anyway?!) Patricia Nash launched her handbags in 2010, much to the delight of many consumers. While she has been immersed in the industry for some time (and is also a vintage handbag collector), Patricia said it took the lifetime of her career before the the light bulb went off one day when she was moving her mother out of her house. While she was there she found a handbag that her mother had received from her father-in-law that she had kept carefully wrapped up for many years. Moved, Patricia knew that this is what she wanted her handbag collection to be inspired by.

Probably the most important thing that I wanted to know was how Patricia takes the focus of her inspiration and turns it into what the consumer will love. Patricia says, “Most old world crafted bags weren’t the most useable, so you have to take the inspiration that you see and make sure it fits right across the body, the right length even over a heavy coat with a lot of pockets. It all comes down to today’s woman while still keeping the integrity of the old world craft feeling. Even though the bag may look “messy” I’d rather it be that way and look more unique and true to the branding.” When you look around at the bags, you definitely get that authentic and vintage vibe from every collection. I am personally in love with that type of style, so it’s safe to say I was in my handbag glory.

We ended but not before I asked questions on beauty (I didn’t forget!). Though Patricia does travel a lot she’s never without her beloved Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which she uses all of the time, every day. She’s also a fan of Clinique! At the end of the day it’s all about destressing with a mani/pedi (OPI is her fave!) and she’s definitely interested in getting a Bubble Bath gel pedi.

Deciding on my first Patricia Nash purchase was not easy. I loved all the different totes and satchels and the exquisite detail of the items had my attention on everything offered at the store. I’ll be honest, I felt frantic because items were going fast (I saw three women buy the bag I had originally thought I’d buy (the Ferrara Satchel) while I was waiting to do the interview). Even still I’m browsing online loving on the Ferrara Embossed Floret Satchel in Grey. Tell me those details aren’t amazing. You can’t, because they’re jaw dropping.

The particular bag I bought (below) is a crossbody where the strap detaches and you can use it as a wallet. It doesn’t appear to be online at Macy’s but this style is the most similar. This wallet was also in my hands, but in the end I ended up with just the crossbody.

PS: Patricia Nash enjoys a good selfie just like the rest of us

If you’re in the Pittsburgh area check out Patricia Nash on August 9, 2014 at Macy’s South Hills Village Mall from 10am-2pm after that she’s taking a break and jetting off to California. To find out if she’ll be coming to a store near you check her personal appearance schedule.

You can also shop Patricia Nash at Zappos, Nordstrom (I’m loving this canvas travel tote), Dillard’s and also directly at patricianash.com.
