Bobbi Brown Art Stick Swatches + Review

Available in eight shades the Bobbi Brown Art Stick was initially intimidating to me because of it’s massive size. It’s bigger than any sort of lip crayon or chubby stick I’ve ever seen, yet it looks like a lip pencil. In the end I bit the bullet and ordered three of them.

The three shades I chose which are swatched and reviewed here are Harlow Red (7), Rose Brown (1) and Cassis (6). Of the 8 shades that have been launched I was surprised there wasn’t a true nude in the bunch. Dusty Pink is described as a soft, neutral pink but it’s really quite pigmented and bright. I’d love to get my hands on a nude in this formula.

Harlow Red is a bright cherry red; Rose Brown is a brown berry; Cassis is a rich cranberry.

The formula is super saturated and each gave off a wonderful intensity while still keeping my lips looking soft and feeling moisturized. I didn’t feel like I needed a lip gloss over-top of any of the Art Sticks. In addition to being a lip pencil these are also able to be used as a cheek product. With the shades I purchased I did not use them that way, but they feel like they’d be smooth and creamy as a blush and based off of how these felt and blended on my arm I wouldn’t have any qualms about putting a lighter shade on my cheeks.

As you can see below (compared next to the MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil) the Art Stick is extremely thick and a little longer. Even though the size is almost comical it doesn’t inhibit you from using the pencil properly. Personally, I had no issues with application but I think if your lips are on the thinner side you might take issue with the size of this, particularly since even when it’s sharp the tip is rather large. This pencil is not self-sharpening but each one does come with a pencil sharpener that is the perfect size for keeping the Art Stick from becoming too low, rounded or dull.
