August 2014 ipsy Glam Bag Review & Swatches

The theme for the August 2014 ipsy Glam Bag is Beauty Schooled. Clearly it’s all about going back to school this month with the items you need and that are essential for staying fresh while hitting the books.

This month the bag is cylinder shaped and white with orange polka dots and trim. It’s got that vinyl/plastic feel of a pencil bag, which is appropriate for the theme. I actually think it’s cute this month!

What’s inside?

From Urban Decay, Perversion Mascara. I have a full size of this and love it! Here is the review.

From Jersey Shore Sun, Mongongo Lip Conditioner. You know.. when I first saw the name of this I assumed Snooki made it. I think that show ruined everything Jersey Shore-esque. Product wise the formula is outstanding. It’s so moisturizing and I love that it’s not gooey but doesn’t sink in and disappear right away. The scent is fruity and amazing. Please put one in every single bag!

From Klorane, Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. You guys know I love me some dry shampoo and have already asked the subscription box Gods to see that one arrives in every single bag forever. Klorane has always been one of my top 3 faves!

From Lord & Berry, Silk Kajal Kohl Eye Pencil. This was a nice little addition. It’s a mini-size (VERY mini) and I really enjoyed the formula. The shade is black but it’s not a pitch black so it’s okay for every day/work safe wear. I found it smooth and smudgeable but it’s basically worthless on my lower lash line. It’s is a kohl, but I sometimes get lucky with those on my waterline (MAC has good ones).

From Coastal Scents, Forever Blush Sample Duo. The shades shown are Fresh (Left) and Elegant (Right). I loved the formula on these blushes and they wear beautifully. The pigment is awesome, too! Though this was a mini set there is a coupon on the packaging for 25% off to buy full sizes.

I was torn over how I felt about this months ipsy bag. I can’t say I was overly excited about anything besides the dry shampoo and the chapstick. Even though I liked all of the items this month I felt like it was disappointing in comparison to other months and everything just seemed so tiny, even for samples. Can’t win em all, I guess! And, let’s be honest, I’ve thrown $10 at a subscription bag (generally speaking) and see a lot worse come out of it.

Ipsy has profile pages, so here is mine. There is also a pretty amazing referral program in place. You refer friends and redeem points to get a sweet little bonus in your next bag. I’ve gotten some really fab full sized products as my bonuses, but, something new, you can use your points to choose your own bonus! I cashed in last November for a full size NYX Cosmetics Bronze Smokey Look Kit (see photos and swatches here).

Here is where you can go to subscribe to ipsy for a Glam Bag.

What do you think about the August Glam Bag? Are you going to subscribe for September? I’m always excited to see what they have in store!
