A Smoothie For Your Picky-Eater

I've made it no secret around here that I have an extremely picky eater. Even since I wrote that last post, she's become even pickier and the things she'll eat have become even more limited. I'm kind of at a "breaking point" in a sense with her pickiness where I just don't care anymore. I know that sounds like I'm being a bad parent, but sitting at a table for hours on end trying to get my daughter to eat x-y-z is just exhausting. It's not worth the temper tantrums and the fighting in the end when she literally will not try something if she doesn't want to. Let's just say that at this point, the conversation is open, but I'm not forcing her to do anything. We talk a lot about trying new things and just talking about that has slowly gotten her to agree to try something new here and there, but I'm letting her take the lead. And I'm completely okay with that.

One thing I can get her to eat, are smoothies. Not just any smoothie, but smoothies jam-packed with vegetables and fruits. When it's smoothie time, Alea pushes her stool up to the counter and helps me put all of the ingredients into the blender. We talk about what each thing is as she puts it in and she's even asked me to put more spinach in a time or two. If I have to make this kid smoothies everyday to get her to eat fruits or vegetables, then that's a small price to pay, if you ask me!

Ingredients:

1 banana
3 strawberries
1 handful of blueberries
1/2 cup of spinach
1 cup of blueberry Greek yogurt
2 ice cubes
1 cup of milk

Blend until smooth and serve with a straw. Bonus points if you have a curly straw!

Other variations of this smoothie have been with 5 chopped up baby carrots and splashes of V8 V-Fusion juice. She especially likes it when we add the juice because it makes it taste a little more sweet... of course! Like I said before, it's a small price to pay to get some fruits and veggies into this picky little eater's tummy!
