Homemade Strawberry Banana Ice Cream

I've been trying my darndest to get Alea to consume healthier snacks and treats. My little girl is a snack-a-holic just like her mommy, but far, far pickier than her mom. I'm just fine snacking on snap peas and carrots, whereas Alea will have nothing to do with either one. She just recently started to like cherries and blueberries, but still only eats those every once in a while. Other than that it's bananas, peas and corn! It's so frustrating, but I'm doing what I can to get her to try new things and when that doesn't work, I try silly things like this.

Who doesn't love ice cream? I remember growing up we'd have ice cream as a bed time snack while watching a family movie together. Sharing and creating those special memories with Alea is so important to me, but when I'm trying to watch my calorie intake and the amount of sugar she consumes I have to be careful. While they're still sugar in this strawberry banana ice cream recipe, it's all naturally within the fruit.

It's easy: Combine frozen bananas with frozen strawberries in a food processor. Blend till creamy and add a touch of milk to thin it out if needed. And if you're feeling extra sweet, add a drizzle of chocolate syrup. That was definitely Alea's favorite part, but she gobbled her bowl of strawberry banana ice cream up like crazy! Such a fun, yummy, and healthy alternative to the usual bowl of vanilla ice cream, right?

What's your favorite healthier sweet treat?
