Back to Black

It’s been a very long time since I’ve updated here! First thing that you’ll notice is a new look, which I’m really happy with.

Flexibility, transformations, and not taking anything personally are the only things that I know for sure as of late.

With that said, what better time to update than in the beginning of the holiday season, following a lengthy car trip to the state capital of California? I had a rare day off this past weekend and there’s lots of things to talk about.

First things first. Travel! I can’t remember the last time I went anywhere other than L.A. at the beginning of 2013? That was almost a year ago.

This pic is of the state capital building in Sacramento, which is pretty at night when there aren’t many people around.

Sacramento, CA

I went from my beloved blue/teal to my natural hair color a month and a half ago. It really wasn’t easy, especially on such short notice, but Nicole of Tetrachromat Studio did wonders. Haven’t seen this color since I was 12 and I’m absolutely not kidding.

Black hair

It’s not blue-black and doesn’t wash me out as much as I had feared. I feel so incognito as of late and this has helped me blend in at times. Of course, the makeup palette needed to be altered.

So, speaking of makeup. Long pause. OMFG and WTF and all of those other things that you say, including (#*%(*#%$*%*&$#!!!! when you lose your makeup bag.

I’ve only done this one other time in the last few years. Although I didn’t lose three Makeup Forever items in this lost haul, now MIA are 3 MAC lipsticks (including Ruby Woo), a NARS creamy concealer, one brand spanking new Benefit They’re Real mascara (my current higher end favorite mascara), at least one Sugarpill Cosmetics eyeshadow and other things that make me kind of sad.

However, I did have a plan as to what was lost this time and more importantly, how I was going to replace what I needed!

This was kind of an impulse buy because I’ve used some e.l.f. products before that I enjoyed mainly because of their price point and that Scott Vincent Borba is one of the founders of the company.

e.l.f. Studio Brush Set

The e.l.f. Studio Brush set only cost $9 on sale at Target, yet this kit packs a mighty punch. Although you won’t confuse it for some of my favorite brushes from Crown, Sonia Kashuk, M.A.C., Nars, or Sephora, you simply cannot beat the price!

The foundation brush performs nearly as good as some of the more expensive ones out there. I also liked the flat eyeliner brush a lot. At these prices, I wouldn’t be as devastated if something tawdry and untoward happened to them.

In my next update, I’ll mention what else I’ve supplemented my new makeup bags with.

So why did I dye my hair? It involves Google. You probably didn’t know that I spent a year working for Cycle Gear, either. It’s been that long since I’ve updated here.

I’ve had to wear branded shirts for quite awhile now. It’s tough to be a colorful and aging individual when I work with mostly under 25′s but most of them don’t know that. Wink.

As far as work attire, this is my uniform as of late.

Access Granted

Due to a combination of stress combined with intense physical activity, I find myself shopping in the kids section. It’s a goldmine for great and cheap basics like jeans and leggings. Here’s a not so little secret: the best part about fitting in the largest kids sizes is that THE JEANS DON’T SHOW YOUR WHALE TAIL.

I can reach, bend, lift, crouch, sit, kneel, and all of those other things that would not be appropriate with a lower rise denim. I don’t need to worry about showing anything as I toil away.

Many days I find myself walking at least 6 miles.

Enter these things. These shoes are some of the most flamboyant and expensive athletic shoes that I’ve ever seen, yet they have saved my life. I’m pretty sure that’s true, no joke. I’m a gal with some foot issues and didn’t know how my tired toes were going to make it through some intense days on the job.

These are called the Asics Gel Kayano 20 and I can’t recommend Road Runner Sports enough for their service.

So what has everyone else been up to? I’m completing this entry while I’m watching an episode of Bob’s Burgers. No pretense and I just laugh and laugh. Kind of like how I am enjoying life right now.
