DIY Bottle Opener Wood Signs

It can be so hard to come up with affordable gift’s for men. And handmade ones that aren’t cheesy are even more challenging! I made these wood signs for Father’s Day but they’d be great for birthday, host or Christmas gifts as well.

Here’s what you’ll need to make one:

  • 12″ x 12″ x 1″ piece of wood (check the scrap wood piles at the hardware store for inexpensive pine)
  • Paint (I used white, black, and yellow)
  • Vinyl or Scrapbook paper (for stencil) and repositionable adhesive spray if you use a paper stencil (such as Krylon’s)
  • White Vinyl (to personalize cap catcher)
  • Wall Mount Bottle Opener (you’ll need (2) ½” screws with a larger head to attach this)
  • Bottle Cap Catcher (this comes with screws)
  • Wire Picture Hanger and (2) ½” screws
  • Silhouette CAMEO

Steps:

  1. Start by putting the wire hanger on the back. I mark a dot 3″ down and 1″ in from each top corner and drill in a screw. Remove the screw, put in the ends of the wire hanger and drill screws back in.
  2. Paint each sign white.
  3. Allow to dry and do a streaky coat of black to create the aged look.
  4. For the design, I bought this periodic table beer design in my Silhouette Software and cut it using scrapbook paper with my Silhouette CAMEO. I used the repositionable spray adhesive to temporarily adhere the stencil to the sign and a spouncer to add the design with yellow paint.
  5. When the sign is totally dry, attach the bottle opener and bottle cap catcher (which is removable if you don’t tighten the screws too much. Then it’s easy to empty and rinse.)
  6. I used part of this bottle cap design to cut the personalized vinyl bottle cap sticker for each cap catcher.

I hope the men don’t mind I used a pink drill to make their signs!

Gift it with some craft beers for some extra brownie points!

Happy creating!
