Sew Organized

What began as a dream long ago is now a reality for Heidi of Fabric Mutt. Her new book, Sew Organized for the Busy Girl, has been released, the blog tour is underway, and I'm pleased to share today about the project I made for the tour!

The book's cover touts "23 Quick & Clever Sewing Projects You'll Love" and I have no doubt you'll find that to be true! I chose to make the Chevron Table Set which is going to get put right to use in our home. For the chevrons, I used some beautiful Artisan Cottons, courtesy of Windham Fabrics. What a perfect array of color for this pattern!

The background is a light gray Modern Solids by Alissa Haight Carlton for In the Beginning. Since all the fabrics used are crossweaves, they play so nicely together as well as having a lovely texture and dimension to them.

For quilting, I just had fun. Using Aurifil 50wt #2625 (Artic Ice), I stitched guide lines every 2" or so, then did organic straight-line, which never ceases to please.

Finished, the runner is 9"x37", and the placemats each 12"x17". I consciously planned the quilting so it went all in one direction when the runner and placemats were used together on the table. This project was great fun and relatively quick too and there's plenty more where it came from!

I found the book's instructions to be clear and concise in the best way, yet with plenty of helpful illustrations. Another feature I really like about Heidi's book is the bonus "Busy Girl Speaks" sidebars where several sewists (moi included) give their tips on blogging, finding time to sew, and organizing your sewing room. That really adds a unique personality to the book.
