DIY | Wood Block Paint Brush Holder

My paintbrushes have found a permanent residence. They have settled in and even decorated the place. The new home came from a simple household project made of a block of wood I had lying around my backyard. A perfect start to a project is having all the supplies at your reach. Just needed to sand the wood to a smooth finish, drill holes… Voila. A work of art for creating works of art. I embellished the look with staining it with a gray sun-bleached wood stain, wood burning a heart and a light coat of paint. Of course, this wood (pun-intended) be a great home for your pencils, markers and other art supplies.

Need:

  • Wood Block
  • Sander and Sandpaper
  • Drill with 3/8 bit
  • Pencil for marking your holes
  • Wood stain
  • Wood Burner
  • Paint and Paintbrushes

How:

Begin by sanding your piece of wood till every side is smooth, using a pencil make marks at the top of your wood where you would like your holes and how many holes (I made 12 holes which worked nicely), begin drilling your holes, be sure to hold on to your wood tight, when you have finished drilling, sand the top and the inside of the holes if needed, stain your wood with your desired color, allow it to completely dry (depending, on whether it could take two hours to eight hours), draw a design on your piece of wood, use your wood burner to color in, paint. Option is to finish your wood with a wood sealer.
