DIY | Revamped Mouse Pad
Our mouse pads were black, a little dingy and beyond boring. Not quite sure how they came about in our office but they have been around from the beginning of Oliver and Michele days. Far too long! I have considered spray painting them a few times but just did not get around to picking out a color and then I came across in my supply closet a custom fabric I made through the site Spoonflower. Have you used Spoonflower? I love it and could easily get carried away creating custom fabric for projects. The fabric I made was using our Oliver and Michele art work. The fabric was originally used for a project my sister-in-law made Rick at Christmas time. I had about a half of yard left, plenty for two mouse pads. I used spray adhesive that I had in my craft closet, it is not my favorite craft supply. Spray adhesive is sticky and smelly but it works fine for bonding fabric to various surfaces. Do use it outdoors or in a well-vented area.
Just a small swatch of fabric on a mouse pad made a great difference in our office.
Oh and I used my iron for this project and I have to admit that my iron had not seen the light of day for over five years. Back to the closet my little iron, see you in another five years.
Revamped Mouse Pad
Need:
- Fabric scraps enough to fit your mouse pad(s)
- Mouse pad
- Good fabric scissors
- Spray adhesive
- Heavy book to lay on mouse pad while drying
- Optional parchment paper to go between your mouse pad and book to prevent a sticky mess
How:
Begin by ironing your fabric. Cut your fabric scrap down to the size of your mouse pad leaving enough room around to trim. Spray adhesive on mouse pad. Do this outdoor as it is smelly. Lay fabric and smooth out any wrinkles. Allow to dry for a moment then lay parchment paper on top of fabric and then lay the heavy books over the parchment. Let dry for 8 hours. Trim away excess fabric right to the end of the foam mouse pad. Enjoy your new pad.
