Science Fiction Star Chart – by Dorothy

Dorothy is a UK based graphic art and illustrator team that I am a huge fan of. In a previous blog post I wrote about their awesome maps. They keep releasing some really cool stuff and now I have a new favorite!

You guys have to check out their Star Charts, they are truly amazing. But the one that really went straight to my heart was the Science Fiction Star Chart.

If you are a die-hard sci-fi fan I bet you wanna hang this on your wall. Read on to get some more info from the creators and some teaser images.

The Science Fiction Star Chart is based on the night sky above Théâtre Robert-Houdin in Paris on September 1st, 1902 following the first screening of Georges Méliès Le Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon). Méliès, a French filmmaker and magician is regarded by many as a pivotal figures in the history of Sci-Fi and narrative film-making.

The star chart features the films (and a few of our favourite TV shows) that are culturally significant to the genre and plays homage to the actors, directors, producers, graphic artists, authors and writers whose work has been pivotal to the enduring popularity of Science Fiction.

The 121 titles featured include those chosen for preservation in the US National Film Registry due to their cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance and a few personal favourites, including: early era silent films (A Trip to the Moon and Metropolis), B movies and big budget movies of the 50’s (Plan 9 from Outer Space, Forbidden Planet, The Day the Earth Stood Still), groundbreaking ‘new wave’ films from the 60’s and 70’s (2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris, A Clockwork Orange), worldwide box office successes of the 70’s and 80’s (Star Wars, Alien and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial), contemporary blockbusters (Inception and Gravity) and cult TV series (Doctor Who and Star Trek).

This poster is absolutely and utterly fantastic! I will order one for my wall and it can be yours too for only £25 post and package.
