NYFW Day 3: What I Wore

Fashion may come and go but one thing for New Yorkers will always be a constant: Black. Orange, purple, green, cobalt, red, pink, leopard—they can all be the new, but at the end of the day they will never be black.

It’s also my favorite shade to wear and makes up a good 90 percent of my closet, so I feel like I can just blend right in when I’m in the Big Apple. I tossed on this dress and hit the third day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. After winding up at Lincoln Center, I ran into fellow Miami bloggers Kristin Clark and Daniela Ramirez, who were also decked out in the same shade. To see three Miami fashion bloggers in a complete lack of color was, well, shocking. As much as New York is known for its obsession with black, Miami is the city of colorful pops.

After our meet-up, we hit the Tresemme lounge. Fellow shoulder-length sister Steffy Degreff was with me and we both craved a crown of braids, but feared our locks weren’t long enough. Surprise! If you put your hair in good, talented hands, you can make magic happen. After my stylist whipped my hair into this masterpiece, I had that aha moment where I was glad I’ve been growing my hair out. Finally, after a year and change. These braids were everything. I want them every day. Cue my new obsession.

I spend the rest of the day rocking my drab dress and new do at the Zappos Lounge, where BluePrintCleanse juice made me feel better about my outfit selection in 90-degree temps. And then it was over to the Reward Style party atop the Empire Hotel, where if you threw a penny it would likely hit 30 bloggers before it hit the floor.

In a moment of “I can’t take one more minute in these shoes” I limped into The Smith with some of my blogger sisters for what felt like our own version of Sex and the City. From the shoes to the awesome conversation, it was unparalleled, one of those moments where you’re grateful for the company, thankful for the food and joyful to take a load off your swollen feet.

Coming to fashion week was one of the best decision I’ve made in a long time. Sometimes, you’re at home even when you’re not.
