DIY Midi Skirt : White and Black

It seems as though I sew in spurts. I go from not touching my machine for weeks, to making two or three very easy pieces in a week. During this sewing spurt I made a simple and very easy white diy midi skirt using McCall’s 6931. I used a mid weight white fabric I had in my stash that I purchased from my local Fabric Mart. I have been wanting to make a midi skirt forever and decided to start off with a simple one. Meaning no frills, gathering, pleats or zippers. Just a clean line and minimalistic. Although I did modify the pattern a tad, by adding pockets and about 5″ in length.

If you are a beginner sewer or just want something super fast and easy to make than this is your type of pattern. It really is easy, you’re simply sewing up two pieces (putting the back and front together) and adding elastic for the waist band. It doesn’t get much simpler than this, I tell you. Well except maybe for the yellow A-line skirt I also made that will be on the blog later this week using another easy pattern.

I’m quite pleased with how this skirt turned out and definitely will be making more of these skirts in different colors and types of fabric really soon. (Actually heading to the fabric store today to find some pastels and bright drapey material) So be prepared, because they may become my spring/summer and even fall/winter staples…lol. These skirts are so versatile and very figure flattering, perfect length for our statuesque frames and I’ve seen them look really cute on the shorter gals as well. Because they are very much on trend right now, you can pretty much find them everywhere. This is a silhouette and length that works well for me, so it will be sticking around trend or no trend for me.

I decided to pair my white diy midi skirt with my go to black pumps from Avenue and a black quilted chain bag I recently picked up from ASOS.

My adorable black bow belt is a piece I picked up a couple of months ago on sale from Banana Republic. I was a little leery about purchasing it at first, because the reviews raved about how cute it was, but a couple of people stated there snaps that are used to fasten the belt had broke after first time use. But it was on sale, plus I had reward dollars to use, so I ended up paying a very minimal amount and I know that Banana Republic has easy returns and figured if my snaps did break I could just return it or attach new ones down the road. But so far so good, no faulty snaps with my belt and I love it. I’m a girly girl and this belt makes my girlish heart skip a beat.

I added my black (faux) leather moto jacket from Topshop to show how easily this skirt can be transitioned from the spring to the colder weather months by simply throwing on another layer. If it gets really cold where you are, then you can add tights, ankle booties and a sweater.

What I’m Wearing:

Skirt: DIY using MCCALL’S 6931 VIEW A, love this here available in tall | Top: Old Navy (tall) | Jacket: Topshop (tall), love the look of this one available in tall here | Belt: Banana Republic | Shoes: Avenue | Bag: ASOS | Necklace: Ebay

Side note: My hair just sometimes has a life of its own and I’m learning that it is easier to just go with it rather than fight it..hence the super high bang….lol

Thank you for stopping by!

Hugs,
