Article of the day: Award-winning American Muslim scholar on Allah ruling: “We are laughing at you”
When I first heard about the fuss of Christians being ‘banned’ from using the word ‘Allah’ (God in Arabic) in Malay language bibles, I got so angry. It’s the most dumbest thing I have ever heard coming out from the mouth of these so-called ‘leaders’ of Malaysia. What’s worse is that people casually throw out the whole, “If you’re not happy with this law, GET OUT OF MALAYSIA!”
When news broke that the law has spoken of the legal ban of the usage of ‘Allah’, I shook my head and said to myself, “Malaysia, what are you doing? Look at all these fucking ignorant bigots proudly holding all these stupid ass banners!” Then I laughed at the stupidity and ignorance that our fellow Muslim Malaysians (those who support this ’cause’) have.
Apparently, I was not the only one.
“This notion that Malaysian Muslims need to be protected by the court because you can’t think for yourself, you can’t make decisions on your own. We are laughing at you,” said Reza Aslan, speaking on BFM Radio’s Evening Edition programme yesterday.
“A Taliban put a bomb in the Quran and took it to a mosque in Pakistan, where Muslims were slaughtered on one of the holiest days in the Muslim calendar. You want to talk about threats to Islam? That’s a threat to Islam,” he said, in dismissing the argument that allowing Christians to use the word in their worship was a threat to Malaysian Muslims.
