Sew: Tessuti Eva Dress

Happy New Year everyone! I've been a bit quiet on the blog front lately (not so quiet on Instagram) which has been due to a combination of holidays, Christmas and one mega dose of the lurgy. Things are slowly getting back to normal. We got home from Queensland yesterday, the fridge was re-stocked today, I got my bake on and the kids haven't eaten chips today. Yes, things a back to normal.

I hope you all had a lovely festive season. We spent time in Queensland with our friends and family. I got to meet my new niece and we stayed at the coast for a few days to wrap up our holiday. Despite all that fun, it sure is good to be home. Back to work tomorrow...

I've been reading everyone's wrap ups of 2013 and I'm keen to do my own. It will just be very late. Over the next week or so, I'm going to show you my handmade Christmas gifts. I had such a fabulous time making the gifts and they were all very much appreciated. More on my handmade gifts later in the week.

My first post of 2014 is all about me. I made myself a Tessuti Eva dress for my Christmas Day dress. I'm completely sold on this style for an easy and stylish dress for hot summer days. I love the lantern shaped skirt.

The dress came together beautifully except for the pockets. I had great issues with the instructions for the pockets. I should have done the pockets like I usually do but I was at Sewjourn and probably talking too much. I never thought I actually followed sewing pattern instructions but apparently I do. They are such simple pockets so I don't know how I managed to stuff them up. I had to unpick and go back and then re-do them my own way. Other than that, it was a quick and simple make.

I love the colour and look of the fabric. I'm really enjoying wearing blue at the moment. The fabric can get a little scratchy due to the metal content but it's not a big issue. This dress is perfect for travelling as you don't have to worry about wrinkles or crinkles!

I made a size L and took the side seams in an extra 1cm from my waist up.

I'm really enjoying the Tessuti patterns lately. I've got a few in the stash that I'm planning to sew up soon. I like the relaxed fit and modern look of their patterns. Love your work Colette!

All in all, a fabulous dress that will get a lot of wear. If I wasn't on a severe fabric ban, I would buy more fabric for another...
