All In The Family: Maria Duenas Jacobs & Bianca Duenas

If any of you didn’t know, today is National Sibling Day! As a sibling duo ourselves, we obviously decided it was an important holiday to celebrate. How so? With a double girl crush of course.

Sisters Maria and Bianca Duenas – let us tell you – may just be the prettiest pair of ladies. Maria helms accessories at Elle, Bianca is Senior Director of Sales at Reed Krakoff; they’re definitely a fashion power duo of sorts. We stopped by Maria’s house to photograph the two with Maria’s beautiful daughter Luna, as well as to play the newlywed game sister-style. That’s right, see how well these two really know each other…

QUESTIONS FOR MARIA…

Bianca’s favorite food growing up…

CHOCOLATE which is funny because she later on developed an allergy and can no longer have any. Perhaps she reached her cap during childhood?!

Bianca’s favorite food now…

Kale. She’s matured a lot since age seven.

What Bianca refused to eat growing up-

She used to eat everything! Or maybe it just felt that way to me because I’m the younger sister .

Bianca’s favorite restaurant…

Charlie Bird

Bianca’s style icon…

She used to love George Michael and David Bowie. Today, maybe Cate Blanchett?

Your guilty food pleasure…

French Fries – I can never resist!

What you eat every morning…

Oatmeal; it’s a (healthy) addiction.

Your go-to quick dinner recipe…

Broccoli pasta. It’s a super simple pasta recipe that my mother taught me (a total comfort food) and I make it often for my husband and brother. They are both obsessed with it. I somehow have them fooled that it’s the best thing in the world.

Your favorite accessory…

My charm necklaces. My mother gave me hers when I went to college and I love it so much. It’s filled with special pieces from her childhood and I love the heirloom quality. I am slowly building a new version with charms from Jennifer Fisher, Monica Rich Kosann and things that have sentimental value. I hope to someday pass it on to my daughter Luna when she’s old enough to appreciate it!

Your favorite recipe from Mom growing up..

Penne with simple tomato sauce. Our mom is Italian and is an incredibly good cook. She makes very complicated and delicious things but a simple pasta always brings me back to being a happy kid.

QUESTIONS FOR BIANCA…

Maria’s guilty food pleasure…

Cupcakes and candy corn. But not together…

What Maria eats every morning…

Oatmeal. Sometimes she eats it for lunch too – it’s a weird addiction of hers.

Maria’s go-to quick dinner recipe…

Broccoli pasta. She’s very good at making it and it’s delicious.

Maria’s absolute favorite accessory…

Frankie, her cat. Does that count? That thing is crazy and she’s obsessed with it. Otherwise, her charm necklace, which not surprisingly, has a Frankie charm on it.

What was Maria’s favorite recipe from your Mom growing up?

Pasta, but I don’t which one. Something simple probably – she doesn’t go for seafood or anything too involved. She likes Burro e Parmigiano or tomato basil, for example.

Your favorite food growing up…

For real food, Cigalas, which are Spanish langoustines. Indulgence – chocolate.

Your favorite food now…

I love root vegetables; fall is my favorite time to eat out.

What you refused to eat growing up…

I was always trying to keep up with my brothers palate so I didn’t refuse anything. He ate anchovies stacked on top of sardines – it’s called a ‘matrimonio’ in Spain. I didn’t like it at the time but ate it anyway. Now I actually love them.

Your favorite restaurant…

Right now I love Charlie Bird. They have great food and play non-stop nineties hip-hop .

Your style icon…

Katherine Hepburn for her bold simplicity and Bianca Jagger because she’ll show up to a party on a horse.
