True Blood’s Kristin Bauer: On Last Night’s Series Finale & Beauty Routines

In light of last night’s last episode of True Blood - ever – we thought we’d have a chat with one of its most beloved vamped-out characters, Pam (Kristin Bauer). Bauer let us in on her beauty routines, her thoughts on True Blood’s series finale (warning, there are spoilers below), and tidbits on her True Blood cast members. This is one to sink your teeth into…sorry we had to.

On your ideal food day from start to finish…

I start every day with a glass of water either with fresh squeezed lemon, Dr. Schulze liver herbal cleanse, or Livatrex. Then I make my favorite green tea blend from Teavana, and add a little stevia to it. For breakfast, I like to have steel cut oatmeal with almond milk, earth balance “butter,” and maple syrup or cinnamon. I’ve just discovered how easy it is to make my own almond milk! It takes two minutes!

I always do a shake for lunch. If I’m home, I add ground flax seed and a greens powder to it. Right now, I’m liking the Pure Trim Mediterranean shake. It keeps me feeling full and gives me energy for the longest time. I can also mix it with water, so it’s great for on the set.

For dinner, I love a stir-fry with brown rice. It’s so easy and good! I love soy sauce. (Make sure to get organic soy sauce, so it’s not genetically modified.)

On things we don’t know about your True Blood cast members…

Hmm…I’m not sure what isn’t out there already; we’re a pretty open bunch. Ryan (Kwanten) and Stephen (Moyer) are pranksters, but I think people have already heard that. I’m a wimp in the cold, and Deborah (Ann Woll) taught me to play “Drawn.” Lauren Bowles and I talk a lot about solar panels, and Chris Bauer and I never did a scene together.

On the True Blood finale…

I am so proud of this season. It’s been a great seven years. I feel Pam and Eric going out together hand in hand was just perfect. It’s hard for me to believe it’s done. Makes me feel such gratitude and sadness all at the same time.

On similarities between you and Pam…

I can be blunt and dry. I tend to want to “bottom line it,” as my husband says. I’ve actually tried to learn to curb that to save the feelings of those around me. Pam and I are both terribly loyal. We both care very, very dearly for loved ones, though for Pam it’s just “loved one.” We both swear a lot, and I really enjoy it.

On beauty from the inside out…

I like to eat raw, real, fresh living foods – not processed or dead foods. I also work with an alternative doctor, who has sought training in nutrition (not mandatory in medical school), to replenish what I am using up – which is everything, as I never slow down. I take amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins A, Bs, C, D, and E. I’m always reading about ways to stay alkaline and cleanse. The body is amazing; it’s a marvel that man still doesn’t even understand. I try to work with it and not burden it with chemicals or unnatural substances – especially because I ask so much of it. The body is like a cork; it will naturally bob up to health if we can let it. It’s not always easy to do, but that’s what I aim for.

On your beauty routines…

I rotate them. Right now I am really enjoying DeVita products. I cleanse, moisturize, and wear a good sunscreen. Devita has all of those, and they are cruelty and toxin free. Whatever we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies. Most lotions, make-ups, and sunscreens are full of toxic chemicals. I try to be aware and careful of what I eat or put on me every day – those toxins will build up. To check your beauty products go to EWG’s Skin Deep.

On your version of the ideal first date…

I haven’t been on one in five and a half years, so I guess it was a pretty good one. My husband Abri asked me to coffee. We met at a French bistro in Los Angeles and (he) drank coffee, and we talked for eight hours. We ended up ordering two meals in that time! It was lovely and all I wanted – simple and meaningful. I don’t need frills, but I do need great conversation and laughs.

On what you’re grateful for (inspired by our Café Gratitude shoot)…

I’m so grateful for my health. I’ve had people I love get sick and die, and I’ve also had to watch out for wearing myself out. I am so, so grateful that I can exercise, walk the dogs, travel, and have access to healthy organic foods. Health cannot be underrated – so we must fight for it, and also laugh a lot! Life can get serious and stressful. Eat well, move, love, and laugh! The basics we all know but are hard to do everyday.
