Yogi Tara Stiles Moisturizes By The Bucketloads: And Says Coffee Isn’t So Bad

In light of all the holiday splurging, we couldn’t help but sit down with celebrity yogi Tara Stiles, whose Strala movement system has a number of partner studios opening this year – and can be done online with CosmoBody. While we all like to eat and enjoy over the holidays, we also like to learn how to dial it back and regroup with some yoga, beauty routines and detox days. Here are Stiles’ tips on all of the above…

From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day?

It depends on what I’m up to that day, and is based around the level of activity and how I feel. A general awesome yummy day is something like this: I’d start off with a cappuccino, followed by a green juice. Breakfast would be a tofu scramble or french toast from (my new book) Make Your Own Rules Diet. Lunch would be some sort of yummy salad or warm veggie soup, and for dinner, vegan macaroni and cheese, an energy bowl, or pasta. Dessert would be snickerdoodle cookies or chocolate.

How do you practice beauty from the inside out?

Paying attention to how I feel is the most important, and getting sensitized to what I need. This works from the regular easy-going practice of yoga and meditation, and the desire to pay attention to how I feel instead of following food rules.

Beauty mainstays that haven’t changed since your teenage years…

Moisturizer by the bucket loads.

What are your Morning and nightly beauty routines?

A hot bath if I can – and buckets of moisturizer! Repeat morning and night. Morning usually ends up being a quick shower, but if I can squeeze in a quick hot bath that is awesome too!

What’s your yoga/workout regimen? How can others apply it to their own lives?

I make time for 10 – 20 minutes of movement for my own practice. Even though I’m moving a lot most days leading Strala trainings, it’s not the same kind of attention as practice. I make time for this in the morning usually, and before bed if I’m not able to get to a class.

Beauty products you can’t live without…

Embryolisse moisturizer, coconut oil, and Maybelline Great Lash.

What won’t you travel without?

A heated sleep mask from Tokyo.

Foods that make you glow…

Green smoothies and juices, berries and fruits, and coffee. I know it’s not supposed to, but I feel jazzed up and glow from that.

Foods that aren’t good for skincare…

Too much alcohol, although I love a glass of champagne every so often. Processed foods, a lot of bread, and a lot of meat. For me, I don’t feel good when eating these things.

Advice for women getting up, looking in the mirror and getting dressed…

Put on some music and dance around. Enjoy feeling and being alive each day. Let it happen from the inside out.

Things you’re coveting right now…

Time with my family and two weeks on a beach.

What’s a go-to healthy recipe in three steps?

Spinach, banana, Almond Milk. Blend.

Best song for one’s workout playlist…

Wild Thing.

What are your favorite cities for food? What restaurants do you love in each?

Tokyo! Nobu and the crazy little places in Harajuku.

In the same vein as ‘what is the new black’ in fashion, what’s the new potato right now?

Having more fun in yoga. Strala has been ahead of this for a while now. The concept is catching on!
