Paper Towns by John Green

From Goodreads: Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs back into his life — dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge — he follows.

After their all-nighter ends and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues — and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees of the girl he thought he knew.

What I thought: I loved this book. I loved it. I didn't think I would because to be honest when I read The Fault in Our Stars I wasn't that impressed. I felt like it was forced and that the teens didn't talk like teens so I assumed I wouldn't like any of John Green's other novels.

Boy was I wrong. Maybe it's because Quentin Jacobsen is that boy that I totally would have had a crush on at school. Maybe it's because I love a good mystery. Maybe it's because I loved to hate Margo Roth Spiegelman. But I adored this book.

I've heard from others that they didn't enjoy this book because yet, Margo Roth Spiegelman is an annoying brat. She is. However, to me she wasn't a big part of this story. Yes, it does revolve around her (she does love when everything revolves around her). However, what made me love this novel so much was the friendship between Q and his best friends Radar and Ben. I love seeing them grow and evolve, and when one of Margo's friends Lacey gets included in the group it's just gold.

For me these teens sounded like teens. The book was witty and smart and although Margo Roth Spiegelman made me angry I think she was supposed to. But the true story revolved around the friendship of three boys who are in their senior year, especially a boy who is used to routine. Seeing Q go from routine loving to someone that goes on a great adventure was pretty amazing and I felt like I was on the adventure with him.

If you're unsure about John Green like I was, I really recommend you check this novel out. It's a lot of fun and you're going to love Q.
