Fall Décor (Life) Transition

Labor Day is the weekend I make the transition to my Fall decor in my home. It is something I enjoy and brings me great joy once it is complete. I adore fall and love being nestled into my home surrounded by beauty. It is a huge process, takes a lot of time and work, and is always a tremendous mess before the order of things takes shape.

Inevitably every year at some point during the weekend I think to myself:

Why in the world am I doing this?It would have been easier just to leave things as they were.

This weekend it struck me that this process I choose to do each season is much like the processes we have to go through during the different seasons of our lives.

It requires a lot of work and it can be exhausting.

You show up one day and find cobwebs where there were none the day before. You look around at things getting so much worse as you unpack, decide what to keep and what to discard, and sometimes where in the world to begin.

As we change and grow through life, stuff we may have loved the previous year no longer holds any appeal. And suddenly you know its time to move on without that thing. There is a lot of trial and error involved – we try something we think we may like or may work and find out it doesn’t.

So we try something else. And again. And again if necessary.

We keep trying until we find just the right “fit”. And then we move on to the next task.

Is it a lot of work? Hell yes.

Is it easier to leave things as they were? Hell yes! Without it though, nothing changes. And when nothing changes, we stop growing.

And when we stop growing, we stop living.

Whatever season of your life you are in, I pray you will continue to do the work. Ask the tough questions. Seek answers with an open mind and an open heart. Be willing to veer off course when that suddenly seems the right thing to do. You never know where that path will take you.

It will be a lot of work but the beauty you see on the other side is all worth it, my friend.

Onward with all good wishes!
