out of the dark...
Just ten minutes away from me is a very special charitable organisation, run by an incredibly dedicated and hard working couple, the quite fabulously named Jay and Jade Blades! Out Of The Dark's premise is a working extended family who employs, trains and educates young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Equality, trust, creativity, a huge amount of hard graft and long hours, but also a lot of fun, all add up to the ethos created by OOD.
I finally met Jay and Jade for the first time last year at 'Heals Discovers', an initiative where Heals produce exclusive collaborations with established designers alongside emerging talents. I then visited their workshop last Summer to see for myself where vintage and mid-century items, purchased or donated, are re-cycled, restored and rejuvenated. OOD is an organisation going from strength to strength, working alongside not only celebrated designers such as Naomi Cleaver and Kevin McCloud, but with the same energy and dedication, also running a youth club after hours in near-by Beaconsfield, and not to forget, bringing up their own family at home. Not much then...
