MMM {wears} What’s this season’s alternative to my Breton obsession?

It’s not a new thing. I realised a while ago (while clearing out my wardrobe) that I have a problem with stripes. A big one. Around 18 striped tops of various hues are currently residing in my cupboards – and let’s not EVEN discuss how many the kids have.

A swift visit to my Instagram account gives you some idea as to the severity of the issue we face here.

Yep, all mine.

And if the fashion world has anything to do with it, it’s one that shows no sign of stopping, because the classic print is definitely a trend for next season too. Check out this backstage image from the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi show at London Fashion Week.

Yes, they go with EVERYTHING. We can layer under, over and on top of other prints. But seriously, in the name of all that is striped, there must be a new season alternative to vary the daily look up – just a jot, yes?

What we’re essentially looking for here – and come on people, I know I’m not alone in this – is a multi-tasking bad boy that will work with pretty much your entire wardrobe, be it alone or beneath other things.

I’ve searched high and low and reckon these three items are your new season go-to’s.

We can do this everyone, let’s lay down the Breton and look at the alternatives.

1: THE SPOTTY SHIRT

It’s a new print to obsess over – this season I’m very much enjoying a polka dot. Wear in every way you’d work a Breton – I’m going to make mine all about the shirt.

2: THE EMBELLISHED SWEATSHIRT

The simplest way to look pulled together in a nano-second, the embellished sweatshirt will look great over everything from this season’s flannel or denim, to a crisp white shirt with the collar pulled out.

I’m already wearing the two things together, look.

3: THE POLO NECK

Hear me now: Wear. This. Under. Everything. It’s one of the season’s key basics and will look fab under short sleeves tops or dresses. Give lighter weight pieces an Autumnal spin by layering one underneath.

Can we do this? Let me know. #BretonObsessionArmy.
