Aveda Light Elements Defining Whip

Those who follow me on Instagram may know by now that I recently got another haircut. My hair has been evolving since I got it hacked off into a bob cut earlier this year. I would call my current hairstyle a long-ish pixie cut, if that makes sense and I am really enjoying having short hair these days.

I got my most recent cut at the ReStyle (by Aveda) salon at NuSentral a week ago. I was browsing through a few hair products and came across the Aveda Defining Whip hair wax.

The wax comes in a rather large blue plastic jar. There’s not much to shout about in terms of packaging but I do appreciate its clean look. The wax itself is white and has a light, whipped texture. It spreads very easily when I rub it between my palms or fingers and doesn’t leave a sticky mess. It is meant to provide light to medium hold without making hair feel crunchy or hard.

I attempted to demonstrate how I would use it on my head. First, I will take just a small dab of the stuff and rub it between my palms. Then, I use my fingers to comb the product through my hair, gently pulling my hair forward so that it’s styled in the direction I want. I use whatever product that’s leftover on the back and sides. You must know that I am completely useless when it comes to styling my hair and using this wax was relatively easy for a hair-idiot like myself.

Aveda says that the Defining Whip has its own Pure-Fume aroma with Lavender, Blood Orange, Marjoram, Rosemary and Cinnamon Leaf. I just say it smells musty and herbal. I’m not that taken by the scent but it doesn’t offend my olfactory system.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with this hair product but the price is a big ouch. It’s RM108 for a 125ml jar. Yes, a jar will probably last a while but it’s still quite expensive for hair wax. I’m not sure if I’d repurchase once I’ve finished using it and will likely look for a cheaper option at the pharmacy.
