Taylor Brooke Winery ~ Woodstock CT.

I love taking trips to “The Quiet Corner” of Connecticut as it is know. On this day, my long time friend Sandy from Rhode Island and I decided to meet in Woodstock to attend the “Artists in the Country Juried Art Show” and explore other happenings in the area. One of our must have visits was to Taylor Brooke Winery located on Rt. 171 in Woodstock. Sandy loves their Wine Dog 1 and St. Croix Rose’. I had never been to this winery so I was excited to visit it also.

To my surprise it was a whole lot more then just “Vines and Wines” it was a family run business and I had the pleasure of not only meeting the owners Dick and Linda Auger personally…they gave me a pleasant tour of their facility and vineyard. I even met Addison the vineyard dog. I was invited into their small warehouse where everything is stainless steal and watched the entire three man process from bottling the wine to attaching the labels. Each label is a work of art from a local artist. How nice is that? Wow did I enjoy this opportunity! I had always wondered how it was all done.

Then I took a stroll through the vineyard and met other family members and workers who were helping that day with harvesting the grapes. From the vineyard we made our way down to the tasting room which was done in a Country Home Style…very warm and cozy. It was filled with shoppers and folks sampling wines. I just watched folks sample the wines as it was to early in the day for me to taste wines. What a wonderful selection of local wines they do offer and everyone I listened to was really liking the tastings.

If you haven’t heard of Taylor Brooke Winery let me share a bit of history with you. Richard A. Auger CFM (Dick as I was introduced to him), is the President and the man responsible for overall management of the winery and wine making process. He has several years experience in making small batch wines and has won numerous awards for his efforts. Way to go Dick! Both Dick and Linda maintain a winery that produce 2,600-2,700 cases of wine a year. On the smaller size but none the less…one of the BEST!

Their mission “to produce a variety of high quality wines from grapes grown on site and procured from local farms”. That sounds wonderful to me! They also believe that agriculture is an important part of the community and by establishing their winery and associated vineyard, they will be able to continue the tradition of farming. Let’s take care of all our farmers!

They recently purchased 13 acres of land next door and will be expanding not only the vineyards but the entire facility including a covered gazebo, new warehouse and more parking. So next Spring it will have a completely new look. I’m definitely stopping back to visit again and next time I’m sampling all the wines!

A big thank you to Dick and Linda for my first up close experience of a complete winery tour!
