Storage solutions

It’s funny how your buying habits change over time. Ten years ago my bank statement was full of student night bar tabs and bulky text books. Five years ago it was clothes, clothes, clothes and more clothes. And now? Well, amid a fluttering of the former, there’s a definite steer towards kitchen utensils, furniture and all things homey.

Having just moved in with the boyfriend, I’m typing this from a room filled with half-opened cardboard boxes and bin bags. And it’s recently dawned on me that in the excitement of securing our perfect flat, we’ve lost all our storage space, and find ourselves without a loft or under-stair cupboard to hide the additional toot we’ve collected over the years (I can’t be the only one to have harboured a
Monica-from-Friends secret closet!)

Before we get to the point of hiding stuff behind sofas or doors, I’ve been busy pinning potential storage ideas, although some are a little more unrealistic than others (how amazing is this stairs bookcase?!)

I’ve also been browsing Wren Living for some bits of furniture that could double up as useful storage. I think a blanket box as a TV stand would be a great bet, so I can hide away things I don't use on a daily basis, like board games and Christmas decorations. I really like the simplicity of this Chelsea Alabaster box, which would also match my bookcases rather well.

My head also turned when I saw this New England Boston Oak console table, which has two very useful 'bits and bobs' drawers and is perfect for dumping my keys on when I get through the front door (I'm a notorious key-loser). I like the idea of a little surface in the hallway for keeping letters, nick nacks and perhaps a vase full of spring flowers to brighten things up after a long day in the office.

How do you manage your storage dilemmas? I have a whole raft of wicker baskets that will no doubt be stuffed to bursting and bundled onto the tops of wardrobes. This article from Buzzfeed also has some genius ideas for increasing storage in your wardrobe. I've since been hoarding drinks can tabs like a madwoman!
