S/S 2014 – Alexander Wang Ready to Wear collection

Alexander Wang inclination to minimal ‘90s style inspiration is not new and he has been doing it subtly by mixing it with innovation. However this season his models hit the runway binging back yet another ‘90s trend that we did not expect to see –Logos.

If there is something that can terribly go wrong in fashion it is logos. It can easily be overdone or misunderstood. Wang strategically laser cut his name on crop tops, leather coats and dresses. He does it so subtly that at a first glance you might not recognize it imprinted in the check pattern on skirts and tops.

Before the show Wang explained why he went for this risky choice: “fashion was really fun, when there was wit and humor, and it wasn’t so serious.” Maybe after being appointed as creative director at Balenciaga he started to feel the pressure of it all. Either way he pulled it off once again and thankfully the SS14 collection is hitting the stores now.

La predisposizione di Alexander Wang per lo stile minimale degli anni ’90 non è una novità essendo silenziosamente parte del suo brand insieme ad una certa innovazione di forme e silhouette. Questa stagione però vede le sue modelle riportare in passerella un altro trend di quell’era che proprio non ci saremmo aspettati –Logo.

Se c’è qualcosa che può andare terribilmente storto nella moda, quella è usare i logo. Esagerato o mal interpretato può distorcere l’intera visione del brand stesso. Wang ha strategicamente usato tecniche laser per ritagliare il suo nome in crop tops, cappotti di pelle e vestitini. L’ha fatto in modo cosi sottile che a prima occhiata potresti non riconoscerlo neanche, grazie all’effetto ottico tra i quadretti di gonne e tops.

Prima della sfilata Wang ha spiegato il perché riguardo alla sua scelta: “La moda era molto divertente, quando c’erano spirito e umorismo e quando non era cosi seria”. Forse ora che è anche direttore creativo per Balenciaga, sta iniziando a sentirne il peso. In ogni caso ancora una volta Alexander Wang e’riuscito a sorprenderci piacevolmente e fortunatamente potremo ammirare la collezione SS14 presto!
