style me thursday :: the wedding guest addition

I kinda, sorta, totally fell behind on my monthly style me thursday posts. To make up for it I thought I’d share a story and outfit I wore myself last Saturday…

It all started with a dress. I needed something to wear to my childhood friend’s wedding but couldn’t find a cotton summer dress that was appropriate (I can’t wear polyester and the likes) or comfortable to wear in the sun. After dragging another of my childhood friends through Metrotown looking, I decided to make my own dress. I came home and dragged K to a fabric store to help me pick out fabric.

I bought two nice choices of fabric but by the next morning, was regretting my choice. Back to the store I went for another 3 meters…this time though of a basic print and on sale to boot!

So began the sewing adventure. Almost before starting I scrapped the dress pattern I had bought, because well it might as well have been in another language AND I bought the wrong size =/ I found an “easy” looking dress on Burdastyle and started working on that. I got about halfway through the top when I gave up; again wrong size pattern and instructions with no photos = bad combo for me.

I decided I should try something easier..like a skirt. I pretty much just took the skirt portion of the dress and “winged it” at first, but ended up taking some tips from The Crafty Cupboard‘s pleated skirt tutorial. Finally, it worked out and I got the skirt done Thursday night just in time for our trip to the island on Friday morning and the wedding Saturday. Phew.

I didn’t have a top for it, so I had my mom searching in Victoria for a tank I could wear with it. She did a pretty awesome jobs of finding tanks that would go with it. I ended up going for the blue, since Kyle’s dress shirt was blue and I had the perfect necklace to match.

We look pretty sharp, eh?

So I matched the outfit with a necklace for sale in my shop, called Daydream. I am not wearing the necklace that is for sale, I make extras for my personal collection of jewelry.
