Barry M Spring 2014 Gelly Swatch & Review

Barry M Gelly ‘Sugar Apple’, ‘Rose Hip’ and ‘Huckleberry’

Part of me dreads spring releases. I don’t feel like pastels suit me because they seem to make my skin feel dirty, or grey, or like I just haven’t washed my hands for a day or two. I hope I’m not the only person who doesn’t get on well with pastels, but regardless, I think I’ve found a solution in the form of Barry M Gelly releases for Spring 2014. It’s no surprise that I love any Gelly release from this brand but my dislike for pastels did have me a little concerned. I’m amazed though, I can’t believe that I didn’t need to colour correct, play with white balance or use any other Photoshop trickery to get them to show on screen as they appear in real life. Just look at the stunning glossiness!

Labelled ‘Huckleburry’, I’m going to assume that’s a typo and that this pastel blue is actually supposed to be named ‘Huckleberry’. It’s a nice pure blue (not green or purple leaning at all) pastel.

‘Rose Hip’ is a lovely soft girly pink with just enough pigment to look like a definite pink as opposed to a sort of pink toned white which is nice.

There’s no chalkiness to these pastels, which is possibly half of my issue with many other pastel polishes. Admittedly there’s not going to be any chalky texture with these as they are Gellys, but I still feel that even some shiny pastels can still give a chalky vibe – perhaps it’s just me and my pastel-paranoia though! Nonetheless, these of so glossy, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if you’ve tried any other Barry M Gelly paints. Two coats for each and no top coat – they are genuinely this shiny all by themselves. I’d advise anyone to get every single Gelly from every release, but if you were to get only one of this spring trio, bizarrely I think I’d recommend ‘Rose Hip’. If you know few pinks I own you’d understand that this is a bizarre recommendation from me. But it’s Gellys, and I’ve basically given my heart to Barry and his Gelly nail paints. Now, if he’d just release a lovely rich autumn range of them with a forest green, burnt orange and a deep vampy red I’d be set!
