Our Favorite Educational Websites for Kids

We’ve been utilizing lots of educational websites for these first few months of homeschooling in an effort to de-school a bit and get the kids excited about learning again. And we are so fortunate to have had the Intel AIO team send us a new HP Envy Rove 20 Intel All In One Computer to try out, too. But more about that in a bit. First, check out these fun and educational websites for kids…

Educational Websites for Kids

  • Reading Eggs & Math SeedsWe had the chance to try out Reading Eggs for their Read-To-Cure Challenge in February, and the kids are still loving it. Priscilla loves being able to personalize her little character and earn “golden eggs” for her achievements. And Sawyer loves the Reading Express games geared toward the older kids and the new Math Seeds program. I love that it makes learning to read, reading comprehension, and math fun for them both for a minimal monthly fee for me.
  • PBS KidsPBS Kids is a go-to in our house for fun learning games and videos featuring the kids’ favorite PBS cartoon characters. And the kids don’t tend to even realize that this one is educational at all, so it’s considered fun-time in their eyes. There is a subscription version, but my kids enjoy the free content on the site and love it.
  • Time4LearningTime4Learning is an online homeschooling curriculum. I signed both of the kids up for this to use as our core curriculum at the start of our homeschooling. We’ve ended up finding some other curriculum that’s more suited to my kiddos, but still love using Time4Learning as a fun supplement to our learning. It covers all subject areas in a variety of levers with fun games and animated videos for a reasonable monthly fee.
  • StarFallPriscilla uses this FREE website for learning phonics for reading. There are cute animated games and videos. She does try to skip directly to the videos, though, if I’m not watching! Sawyer, an avid reader already, even likes watching this one over her shoulder.
  • Discovery Kids- Discovery Kids is one of my science-lover Sawyer’s favorites! There are lots of cool educational games and videos that have that Discovery Channel flare but are all kid-friendly. And it’s all FREE, too!
  • Animal PlanetThis is another favorite of my Sawyer. Animal Planet is full of cool videos about animals of all kinds. But since this one’s NOT KID FOCUSED, you might want to preview or monitor your littler ones with it.
  • National Geographic KidsGuess who loves this one? Yep, my Sawyer does! My animal- and nature-loving boy could spend all day watching the videos and playing the educational games on National Geographic Kids. And it’s all FREE!
  • Pandora Radio - Okay, so maybe this isn’t exactly a website for kids. But we do use it nearly EVERY DAY for homeschooling. Putting kid-friendly music on helps me to get my kids focused. And with Pandora, you can choose a station from the kids genre or type in a kid-friendly song or artist to build your own “station.” Since we’ve started exploring Charlotte Mason homeschooling, we’ve been using Pandora to explore a different classical composer each week.
  • YoutubeHere’s another one that is obviously NOT KID FOCUSED, but with a little planning ahead by mom, it can be a great educational resource for kids. I just preview and add educational videos to a Homeschooling Playlist that the kids can watch to supplement their learning.
  • NGAkids Art Zone Honestly – the kids haven’t used this one yet, but leaving a list on an odd number kind of drives me crazy. So I just found this awesome kid-friendly website from the National Gallery of Art, and the art teacher in me is SO excited to get the kids learning more about art with it!

More About our New HP Envy Rove 20 Intel AIO Computer!

Now I MUST tell you more about our new Rove! The kids love exploring and learning using the AIO touchscreen. It makes the websites for kids mentioned above even more interactive and fun! Since it’s an All-In-One, there are tons of cool apps to use on it. And we can even use our Rove like a giant tablet and gather around it on the floor to watch educational videos, too! How cool, right?! I’ll share more about how we use it over the next couple of months.

Do your kids use the computer for learning? What are your tops picks for educational websites for kids?
