Mama Reads Monday – August 18th

Looking for Some Good Reads, Mama?

I’m always coming across interesting and inspiring reads that I want to share with all of you. So I’m now sharing them each Monday! Here are my favorite reads from the previous week for you to sneak in during your mama time. (And if you have any interest or inspiring articles from your blog to share – scroll on down and add them to the link party below!)

My Favorite Mama Reads for The Week:

  • Useful Phrases for Working with Children - These are from a school setting, but so good for parents, too: “…most of them don’t just tell, rather they engage the child, help the child recognize their needs, and give the child the opportunity to be a problem solver. It’s not ‘Carry the tray right’, we say ‘Remind me, how do we carry a tray?’ By engaging the child with these underlying ideas, we are giving them autonomy and a sense of control, rather than being controlled and just telling them what to do.”
  • Forgive Your Child; Extend Them GraceLove this reminder: “If your child can’t make a mistake at home without fear of derailment, then how are they going to handle bigger mistakes? How are they going to handle errors when someone else is doling out consequences, someone who doesn’t love them like you do?”
  • The Robot, The Superhero, & The PersonKeep building, Mamas: “You can’t rush the stages. There are fundamental building blocks that must be laid and built on. … I can tell you, it’s the most rewarding thing to see the fruition of blocks built over years and years, come out in a real and true relationship. One of the hardest things about parenting is the deep rewards happen long (very long) after the investment is made…through many joys and struggles.”
  • The Night Justin Timberlake Sang Happy Birthday to My Son with AutismHeartwarming: “And I swear the light in his eyes when this world of people began to sing was so bright it must have been what got my eyes so unexpectedly teary, you know the way your eyes water when you look at the sun? All my mama worries had been for naught. Everyone was embracing our boy in the way I was afraid they wouldn’t.”
  • Just a Bad DaySome REAL Mama-ness right here: “I’m trying to keep it together. I’m trying to set the tone. I’m trying to see the lighter side, and assign positive intent, and pick my battles, but I’m not being consistent. All the ‘trying’ is interspersed with way too much exasperation and yelling.”
  • The Most Crucial Playdate to Schedule for Your ChildGreat reminder: “We think our children — as they are growing up and becoming more independent — need us less. Actually, they need us more. And if we’re not careful we’ll assume away their childhood thinking they don’t want to be with us when they actually very much do.”
