When Life Gives You Chaos, Still Make Lemonade

My summer escape led me through all of Germany and to the Alsace region where I frolicked with goats. Untouched forests and hours of hiking without meeting a soul: it was pure hermitic bliss for several days.

I haven’t spoken about this on the blog before because after what happened I just wasn’t able to share anything private anymore but I guess it’s something I’ll be forced to mention sooner or later. A year and a half ago after around nine months of being married I separated from Alasdair. For both of us the time after that was a long one spent suffering and one filled with a lot of shame. My view on marriage has always been a “forever” one and realizing that I couldn’t uphold this was even worse.

After being together for more than six years, we were faced with beginning a completely new life on our own and leaving the old one that we had shared for so long behind. It was an immeasurably difficult decision but one that had to be made and now, one and a half years later I can finally say that things are ok, in fact wonderful for both of us. Maybe we were in fact too young, who knows. We learned more about ourselves during this time than at any point before in our lives and we have both grown and grown up.

Alasdair and I have each moved on and have been able to, now after the divorce has been finalized, begin again as friends and I am so grateful that we have both managed to not shut the other person out. He is moving in together with his new girlfriend and I met my current boyfriend, Clemens, at the beginning of this year that you might be seeing occasionally on the blog. Life is insane, painful, confusing, wonderful and unplannable but I am a firm believer in that things all happen for a reason. Sometimes it just takes time to understand certain twists of fate.

Clemens and I went on a cross country trip throughout Germany and hiking in the Alsace region together and of course I had my camera with me all the time. The Pfalz wine region, Colmar, Freiburg, Wissembourg, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Weimar, Dessau, Hunsbach, Eltville…it was magical.
