A Big Fat Update

Looooong time no talk! I didn’t mean to take a two-week blogging break but, well, life happened.

Here’s what we’ve been up to as of late, in picture form.

We started planting grass. Growing grass from scratch is pretty much like caring for an infant (all the moms out there are rolling their eyes at me right now). Sharing a before shot below.

Prior to yesterday and today, our weather has been absolutely glorious. This has meant many nights grilling out on the deck.

And good weather means good running! Back at the Couch to 5K app and going strong in the middle of week four right now.

We had a very low-key Easter here in town due to Kevin’s work schedule. My mom and dad sent us the cutest Easter basket in the mail. FROZEN!

We had our friends Danny and Sara over for Easter dinner since they didn’t go home with family either. We grilled out and pretty much had a big ole Easter feast. Baked ham on Easter is for weenies.

Easter night was a gorgeous night to relax under the lights.

We watched a lot of Blues hockey in the past couple of weeks. Honestly, that’s where most of our nights have been spent: in front of the TV watching my Blues implode and basically transform into the 2013-2014 Bengals team. Enough ’bout that. Sore subject.

We took a mid-week trip up to Cincinnati to see Kevin’s family! Gracie loves when she gets to see her Grandma Marcia and Auntie Alison.

Cincinnati has a Jack in the Box so you KNOW we paid them a visit.

My Easter gift from Kevin’s mom was a box of Esther Price dark chocolate caramels with sea salt. My word. They blow these caramels out of the water. I still have three left, and I’m savoring them ever so slowly.

So a lot of our evenings have been filled with hockey, but also watering our yard. And saying prayers that it grows while looking at it.

Gracie’s thankful that we didn’t shut down her entire play house because frisbee is totally her favorite thing in the entire world. I mean, just look at the focus in her face.

Told ya we grilled out a lot.

And in the most exciting news, we FINALLY hung some decorations up in our bedroom. A year in the making and it finally feels like a bedroom and not just four walls with a bed. It’s still not done (aka no pictures IN the frames) but it’s a good start.

We also decided that hanging picture frames is the World’s Worst Home Improvement Task. I’d rather clean toilets.

Here are some progress shots:

OH and I bought a new mat for our bathroom and I’m in love with it so I thought I’d share.

The prayers worked you guys because our grass is starting to grow!

We’re hoping it stays that green and continues to grow because we’ve been getting terrible storms here the past couple of days and it doesn’t look like it’s going to let up any time soon. Seems like the whole Midwest is experiencing crazy storms (including my mom who was almost taken down by trees at work today!) and while we didn’t have any tornados here, our power did go out last night.

There were only 38 houses in our entire neighborhood with no power and ours was one of them. And our neighborhood doesn’t even have above-ground power lines! Strange.

It was knocked out from about 8:30 p.m. – 2 a.m. so we got creative with folding laundry and broke out the camping headlamps.

And candles! I found a candle at TJ Maxx this weekend that smells JUST LIKE Destin, FL so I bought four. Shhhhh, Kevin thinks I only bought this one.

Our phones eventually died and it was sorta nice to just lay in bed and listen to the rain fall without technology and distractions.

And that’s that!
