Agave Lime Lemonade

Nice to meet you, Cupcakes & Kale Chips fans! I’m Lori, and I blog at Foxes Love Lemons. I’m all about simple yet special meals made at home. I also like to share tips from my time in culinary school to help my readers be better, more efficient home cooks. I’ve been a big fan of Brianne’s blog and Instagram feed for a long time now. I also had the opportunity to meet her and hear her speak about social media at the Food & Wine Conference last month. She’s just as lovely in person as you would imagine, so I jumped at the chance to guest post here.

Since the very title of my blog shouts a love for lemons (my maiden name is Fox, which explains the other part of the title), I obviously publish a lot of lemon-centric recipes. So when I realized earlier this year that I didn’t have a single recipe for homemade lemonade on my blog, I had to correct it immediately. I decided to do one new homemade lemonade a month for the summer months. So far, my favorites have been Strawberry-Ginger Lemonade and Honey Mint Lemonade.

The one thing I’ve found about homemade lemonade is that it can be very tart! You need a decent amount of granulated sugar to sweeten fresh lemon juice enough to make it drinkable (which makes it more of a treat rather than a refreshing beverage). I’ve been looking for alternative ways to sweeten it, and my newest creation takes advantage of the agave nectar that my husband brings back from business trips to Mexico (although it can now be found in most U.S. grocery stores, near the honey or sugar).

Author: Brianne @ Cupcakes & Kale Chips Serves: 6
Ingredients
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup agave nectar
  • 3 cups water

Instructions
  1. In pitcher, stir together lemon juice, lime juice and agave nectar. Add water; stir until well combined. Serve lemonade over ice.

Notes Note: This makes a delicious, tart-tasting lemonade. If you'd like a sweeter drink, stir in additional agave nectar 1 tablespoon at a time until desired level of sweetness is reached.
