Join the next 7×7 Remix!

It’s time again!!

We’re doing a 7×7 Remix again!! I really would love for you to join us. This time around I’m linking up with Cyndi from Walking in Grace and Beauty. If you haven’t checked out her blog yet, seriously, do it. She’s beautiful inside and out and a pleasure to read. I’m honored she’s hosting with me!

So here’s the deets. You need to take 7 pieces of clothing from your closet. Remix them to create 7 different outfits (or more if you’re brave!!) and then come back here to link up on April 2nd. If you have a blog, we’d love to see what you’ve put together! Definitely write a post and link up with us. If you don’t have a blog but still want to join, connect with us on Instagram by using the hashtag #7x7Remix so we can all follow along. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Now, I haven’t exactly chosen my seven pieces, but I have an outfit from our recent family day in Nantes and a hopefully funny story about my day yesterday. Or just me whining… you decide.

I get up at 4:30 am Monday and Tuesdays and make my hour-and-a-half journey to school to study French. I love French and learning it has been a true joy, but lemmetellyou, those 4:30 am wake-up calls — ‘specially after two weeks of vacations — are brutal.

And yesterday… yesterday was an overall irritating day. I take the train to metro, change stops, and then another 20 minutes on the metro, then a 5-minute walk. I honestly don’t mind it most of the time because it’s just me and it’s my time to feel independent. Well, this particular morning my journey kinda killed my day.

I got on the tram like usual at the train station. Now, usually you have to buy a 1€50 ticket to ride the tram. I had an extra one left over from break so I was good to go. The catch? I didn’t post it. When you enter the train, you’re supposed to post your ticket so they know when you got on. My trick? Have the ticket in hand and post it as soon as I see the men in green jackets outside the train. I know, I know, it’s kinda cheating. But I’m really cheap… 3€ a day? That’s what I pay for lunch!!

Here’s the outfit deets starting from the top: Glasses: c/o Glasses.com // jacket: Pimkie (French store) // Top: RoeBlvd // Pants: H&M // Shoes: Payless // Necklace: ShopSosie

Man, even revisiting this ticks me off. So I get on the other train and it wasn’t too busy and I usually don’t see the tram workers in the morning. So I’m sitting there staring at my phone, like in-the-zone locked in. Instagram to check my awesome Paul pain chocolat post I did that morning – oh, another “Like”! I’m so cool. Facebook, oh sheesh, I can’t believe she posted that, yikes! Back to Instagram to see if anyone thought my post was super clever. You know, the regular social media bizz.

I look up. Oh, cool, I’m at the stop before my stop, almost there. Start messing on my phone again until the train starts slowing down. I look up to see a man in a black coat standing in front of me. It startled me, but I’m cool, this is my stop.

Oh, wait. Crap. He’s a tram guy. He’s asking for my ticket!

Dozens of thoughts ran through my mind. Run Natalia, run!! You’re at your stop, what are they gonna do, chase you down? (Note: they probably would have.)

Just post the ticket. Just do it right now. He can’t make you pay if the ticket is posted, even if he saw you do it.

Play the foreigner card. Do it, stumble through your French. You’re new here. You don’t live here, you don’t know the system!! I have to post my ticket, you say? But it’s never been a problem before?

JUST CRY! Break down and cry! Maybe crying foreigner status = freedom? (NOPE.)

I went with the foreigner card. I tried. Honestly, not my proudest moment in life. I played the ‘I don’t live here’ card, I showed him my California driver’s licence (which doesn’t help when it’s sitting next to your French insurance card). I used English words within my French sentences. I gave it my best shot.

You guys. THEY DIDN’T BUDGE.

I must have forgotten two things.

  1. I’m an American in France.
  2. French are mean.

Right there, on the spot, I had to bust out my card and pay 33€ to the men in the black jackets (which were supposed to be green.)

Did I learn my lesson? Absolutely.

Pay better attention when you’re on the train so you can see ‘em coming.

Oh, and always carry your husband’s credit card.
