Don’t you feel like braids and summer go hand in hand? I do! They’re easy, they can contain unruly hair, and they’re still cute! Total bonus points is that they can look good messy as well. I am all over the messy-put-together look.
So I thought in honor of summer being in full swing and probably plenty of you dying for some new hairstyles to try, I’d round up some of my favorite ways to wear braids! Some of these are braids I put together for inspiration and there are no tutorials related to them (that I know of). Some of them have been posted here before and I’ll link to it if I have!
Let’s do this!
Yep, just a simple French braid to the side. I just tuck in my bangs because I don’t want them to be in my face. It’s also now the ever popular Elsa braid which will be a win with your kids!
All you do here is create a big side part, Dutch braid down the side and continue to the end of the hair. Create a ponytail to the side with the rest of the hair and secure with a small hair tie. Then wrap the braid around the ponytail & secure with bobby pins. Easy peazy!
I created a tutorial for this look here if you want to check it out, but it’s super simple. Pull the front sections on either side of your hair back and you can either secure with a tie & then do the fishtail or — if you have confidence in your fishtail braid — you can just start from there and fishtail it pretty tight. Secure at the end and your done! If you started with an elastic at the base, just slide that off and you’re done!
This has been my go-to summer braid. It’s basically just a big French braid all pulled to the side. You loosen it a little bit so that it’s not so tight to your head and you’re done! Perfect for beach or pool days. There is a tutorial right here if you want to check it out. I took this picture before I colored my hair. It looks a lot better after!
You might notice a trend. Seriously, you guys, all my tutorials are easy. I’m not some kind of hair master, although I’d like to be. I’m just a regular gal that likes to find fun things to do with her hair. This is one of them. It’s easy to do but hard to explain so you’ll have to watch the tutorial.
I did this one because braided bangs were so stinkin’ popular I wanted to do another variation of it. It’s very pretty and elegant without being too hard or too much work. That’s my kinda style for sure. You can check out the tutorial for it here.
If you have bangs this is a fun look! You can leave them out to the side so the braid isn’t too tight or harsh. It’s a great variety. By pulling your hair half up, it’s also out of your face which is nice.
I love this bun, it never gets old. All you do is flip your hair upside down, braid all the way up, secure with a ponytail, then wrap your hair around a bun maker. The tutorial is here with a video tutorial. This one is perfect for summer because your hair is cute & all off your neck!
Okay so this one isn’t a true braid, but everyone loves a rope braid. If French braids are too difficult for you, try the rope braid. Here’s a basic rope braid tutorial and here is the tutorial for this particular hairstyle.
I shared this hair tutorial a little while ago with how to spice up your ponytails. Because we all wear them, why not make them a little extra cute! I just French braided one on top and one on each side. Then I poof it up a bit so that it’s not flat against my head. Perfect for the summer hear!
This is kinda a fun one also taken from the ponytail post! Two plats on the side, and a sweeping side part. This could be a ponytail or even just wear it down. Kind of a little rock start look, isn’t it? Rock on!
Not gonna lie, I wear this hairstyle quite often. My bangs are at a weird phase, so I’m always trying to get them out of my face. This is just one of the easiest ways to get my hair out of my face.
So simple and so pretty! All you do is a regular side braid leaving out the front section to the side the braid is going. Wrap the braid around and pin into a bun. Then wrap the hair you kept out around the bun, pin and you’re done! Here’s the tutorial.
I’m pulling this baby out of the archives! One of my first hair tutorials, I still love this braid! I also miss that shirt… You can check out the hair tutorial here. Just be easy on me, like I said, it was one of my first ones!
Another one from the archives, it might look a little intimidating, but it’s really easy. I have a video tutorial on how to do it here, so check it out!
Same as the double hanging braids, but just do one. Duh, right? You can wear your hair down or like this one in a side bun. A ponytail would also work!
Now the rest of these I did in one sitting to bust out a bunch of simple, inspirational braids. I did them all really quick so I know they’d be easy for you guys too!
Inspiration: Pinterest! But it’s very easy. Big braid half way down and then continue into a fishtail braid. BAM You’re done!
All I did here was a Dutch braid to the side, similar to what I did in this tutorial, except instead of stopping it, I continue around. I tucked it under the hair on the other side so it becomes a semi-half up. I have never worn my hair like this before and I was happy with the way it turned out! Definitely another one I want to wear again soon!
Love the double braids. You can wear them so many ways – like I’m showing them here – and they’re all so perfect for summer. This one you pair with a messy bun to the side for that messy, summery look!
Another way to dress up your ponytail! We all wear them, specially during the summer, and it’s always fun to vamp them up a bit. The double braids at the front give it a little more character. Wrap the braids around the ponytail and you’re done!
The same double braids, just leave them down! It adds texture to just leaving your hair down.
I have seen this style quite a lot but never tried it. I just thought I couldn’t pull it off, or my hair wasn’t long enough or it would be too difficult to do. Actually, it wasn’t hard at all! Two side braids pinned up on top. This might a new favorite!
This is the same hairstyle as above but without continuing the braid. Instead you just tuck it in on the side. I love this with straight hair or even pretty curls would look so good! Here’s a tutorial for it.
By just braiding a random section in the middle of your hair it gives you that relaxed, hippie-ish look. It doesn’t keep your hair out of your face, but you could always pin your bangs into the braid. That’s probably what I would end up doing.
Well there you go! 22 ways to wear braids!
I hope you got some good ideas from this post! It’s mean to be inspirational, not really instructional, but if you’d like a tutorial for something I shared here that I didn’t already have one, let me know! I’m always happy to take requests!
Have a great weekend!
