I have been pretty stinkin’ good about posting a hair tutorial every Friday, super proud of myself! I did miss last Friday, however, as I was on my Stitch Fix Vacay and couldn’t get my act together in time. I mean, I had it planned & almost done, just couldn’t get it finished. But today I have a cute, fun hair post, not really a tutorial, but more of a group of ideas.
Oh and I shared the first installment of mine and my husband’s love story on the blog yesterday. I always get people asking and since our story is rather involved, everyone suggested I start at the beginning. I’d love to hear your feedback!!
I was shopping at H&M the other day with a friend and I saw the big beige bow. It’s like a clip straight out of the 90′s and I knew I had to have it. Not because of the clip part but because of the bow. Doens’t it just look like a grown up sophisticated bow? I thought so anyway, and immediately I thought “I could do a bow post!” So I bought it along with a pair of little ones and was on my merry way.
You’re probably thinking “no stinkin’ way, Natalia. I put hair bows in my daughters hair, I definitely don’t want to put them in mine!” I feel ya, I do. I don’t have daughters, but I still can understand not wanting to look like a little kid. But I think the way you wear your hair bow will determine whether or not you look like a little kid. Let’s start with a few ‘guidelines’ if you will.
There really aren’t too many rules, and I don’t think you can go too wrong, but probably best they’re followed. I mean, I put one in while I was making this and took it right back out. Too little lady for me to rock it. Let’s do this.
These two are probably my favorites. I mean, the top knot is just a loose, messy bun which is easy and fun. The side braid is a very loose, big braid. I only braided about 3/4 of the way down because I wanted the curls to show through on the other end. I also didn’t use a hair tie, just the clip from the bow, so that it looked thicker and spread the braid out a bit.
The first one is simple, just twist one side of the hair back and pin, then the other side back and secure with the bow clip. You can use bobby pins for both sides and then put the bow over it, but either way it’s basically just twist and pin. The second one, to the right, I actually did the mini pompadour in the front and tried the bow right there. Ya, that didn’t work. I promptly took it out and wrote rule #1 – don’t wear the bow right on top of your head! But I added another poof and put the bow more towards the back and I liked it!
You’ll see it if you watch the video I made to go with all these looks, but the headband is basically just an elastic athletic headband. I slipped that on and then added one of the smaller bows off to the side. It’s a great way to get a little creative with what you have! The ponytail one is pretty self explanatory, create a cute, poofy, low ponytail and add the bow right on top. I teased around my head to give the ponytail some volume and then just slipped it on!
These are really simple and elegant, if you ask me. Both of them are a deep side part and by just placing the bow on either side you have a different look! I think my favorite is the deep side part and the bow on the side with less hair, but the more practical of the two, for me anyway, is the one where the bow keeps my hair out of my face. Because I hate my hair always falling in my face!
Well there you have it! 8 ways to wear bows in your hair without looking or feeling like a little girl! I, of course, made a video to go with it to show how I did each look. I really hope you like it! Every Friday, like I mentioned, I will have a hair tutorial up on my YouTube channel, check it out and subscribe if you’d like. I am also trying to have one every Monday/Tuesday as well. Not hair, but something else, beauty, family, life, etc.
Oh and I’ve got something exciting going on over on Instagram starting next week!! I’m really stoked. You can follow me over there for that or come back here on Sunday for the announcement!! Hope to see you there!!
