CHICAGO NEWS

♦ Jeni’s is expanding! Not just your waistline, but a new Chicago location. The ice-cream company that got it’s start in Columbus, OH and opened it’s first Chicago outpost last year will open a Wicker Park location at 1505 N. Milwaukee Ave. It will join other food spots such as Umami Burger, XOCO, Max’s Wine Dive and Native Foods also are on block.

♦Northwestern Hospital in Streeterville has made US News World Report List of Best Hospital coming in at No. 10.

♦Webster’s wine bar will reopen in Logan Square after shuttering in it’s Lincoln Park location. It will take over the Telegraph space at 2601 N. Milwaukee Ave.

NATIONAL

♦ Split job! Timothy Draper, a venture capitalist in California wants to split the state into six. According to USA Today, a proposal back by the venture capitalist to divide California into six states has received enough signatures(more than the approximately 808,000 signatures) to make the November 2016 ballot. #SixCalifornias

♦ The first designs in the Fitbit Tory Burch partnerships have arrived and are available for purchase. You will have to purchase the tracking device seperately of course but now there’s a stylish way to rock it. Click here to buy

♦ Baseball’s All Star festivities will culminate tonight with the all star game but first the home run derby.

Yoenis Cespedes Homerun Derby 2014 winner

This year’s winner was Yoenis Cespedes. The Oakland A’s outfielder won the title again this year, becoming the first repeat winner of the All-Star skills contest in 15 years.

♦ SNL feature actor Brooks Wheelan has been fired from the show after one season.

♦ Director and producers on the Greg Allman biopic Midnight Rider are being charged with involuntary manslaughter over the death of camera assistant Sarah Jones according to The Hollywood Reporter. Midnight Rider director Randall Miller, producer Jody Savin turned themselves in to police in Wayne County, Georgia; Executive producer Jay Sedrish was also charged with involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing.

Jones was struck and killed by a train on the set of the Gregg Allman biopic on February 20. Her death has served as a wake-up call for the entertainment industry about on-set safety issues. Production on the film has since been suspended, with star William Hurt, who was on set when Jones was killed, pulling out of the project. Involuntary manslaughter carries a potential sentence of 10 years in prison under Georgia law.

♦ Kate Bosworth is launching a new fashion app called Style Thief. WWD reports she is partnering with co-owner of specialty retail chain American Rag Cie and a former president of Gemstar-TV Guide Interactive. The app lets people snap a photo, do an image search for a fashion item and buy it through a couple of clicks.
